Full Job Description

Iron Mountain is seeking a motivated and experienced North America Senior Payroll Tax Analyst to join our Global Payroll team.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our organization remains in full compliance with local, state, provincial, and federal tax regulations while serving as the primary guardian of our tax integrity.

You will join a collaborative, detail-oriented team focused on precision, system optimization, and supporting critical corporate activities.


What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Compliance & Vendor Oversight: Oversee the timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax returns—including Form 940, Form 941, Form W-2, and Canada Forms—by our outsourced payroll and settlement vendors.

  • Account Reconciliation & Auditing: Perform regular plausibility audits and reconciliations of employee and employer payroll tax setups to identify and resolve discrepancies, while completing tax returns and requesting payments for Canada Workers' Compensation and other agency-related taxes.

  • Agency Liaison & Problem Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for tax authorities to handle notices, audits, and new tax identification number registrations, while directly addressing executive escalations and stakeholder inquiries.

  • System Optimization: Partner with internal teams and our tax preparer to thoroughly test and implement mandatory tax updates within our Workday payroll system.

  • Reporting & Strategic Support: Prepare periodic trend reports regarding tax liabilities and potential financial impacts for senior management, while supporting corporate activities such as mergers and acquisitions.

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of experience specifically in Payroll, Payroll tax, or high-volume multi-state and multi-provincial payroll.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise payroll software (Workday), advanced proficiency in Google Suite (Google Sheets), and deep understanding of Circular E (Employer's Tax Guide) alongside multi-state reciprocity rules.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Analytical Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex "forensic" payroll data and tax implications into clear, actionable insights for employees, executives, and management.

  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) designation is highly preferred.
