Position Title: Senior Payroll Analyst

Location: New York, NY

Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 / Annually

A Queens based property management company is seeking a Senior Payroll Analyst will serve as the primary support to the Senior Payroll Manager. This role is responsible for payroll reconciliation, reporting, audits, taxes, garnishments, child support, and compliance activities. The Senior Payroll Analyst will also assist the payroll team with day-to-day processing when needed, while focusing on complex analysis, escalated issue resolution, and special projects. The role requires strong collaboration with HR, Accounting, and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and effective communication across departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong payroll background with knowledge of accounting, GL reconciliation, HR processes, and union payroll practices, along with the ability to interact independently with senior management when analysis and recommendations are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Payroll Department and Senior Payroll Manager with weekly payroll processing for 4,000+ employees.

  • Manage outstanding/uncashed checks with Payroll, Senior Payroll Manager, and Accounting, ensuring proper reporting and reconciliation.
  • Generate complex payroll and financial reports; anticipate issues and develop new reporting as needed to support compliance and business needs.
  • Manage garnishments, levies, and child support orders in compliance with federal, state, and union requirements.
  • Handle escalated payroll issues and provide second-level support, while assisting with day-to-day operations when necessary.
  • Partner with HR and Accounting teams to ensure alignment of payroll data.
  • Support payroll-related projects, including system upgrades, testing, and process improvements.
  • Ensure audit readiness for internal, and external audits.
  • Independently interact with senior management on payroll, HR, and accounting matters, providing analysis, recommendations, and updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Support day-to-day payroll operations as needed to ensure department effectiveness.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or analyst role.
  • Highly knowledgeable of payroll systems, garnishments, and child support processing.
  • Discreet and dependable in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience with union payroll is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas).
  • Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to independently interact with senior management and present payroll, HR, and accounting information clearly and professionally.
