Product Development –Senior OilSystem Engineer

Arden, NC

The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and acutting-edgemanufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. 

This position is responsible for leading the Oil System Integration of Power Generation products.  The person in this role will be responsible for engineering product development of micro gas turbine sub-systems, starting from the design concept through validation and ending with product commercialization.  They will be required to coordinate cross functionally to ensure proper system integration and execution of the validation plan. The Senior Systems Engineer must be skilled in basic program management disciplines (objective setting, planning, budgeting, tracking, communicating) and have strong interpersonal communication skills to ensure that programs are executed in a timely manner.  

 

  • Responsible for oil system development and integration; including flow, thermal management, filtration, and system-level validation to ensure performance, durability, and reliability targets are met.  

  • Drives system integration across all engineering disciplines; serves as a liaison between engineering teams to achieve sub and full system targets  

  • Supports sub system target spec creation, facilitation, and management  

  • Responsible for creationand maintenanceof sub-system DFMEA, DVPR, and roll up of DFMEA into full engine 

  • Leads the validation of theoilsystem, coordinates with team for full system validation  

  • Responsible for coordination of necessary Certificationspertaining totheir system (UL/CE, Emissions, etc.)  

  • Leverages resources in both Product Development and other groups without having direct reports.  

  • Leads PD / ME team members by influence, design, development, and validation ofnew technologies

  • Assists the PD teams in creation of risk assessment, development and validation plans that align with Global Product Strategy  

  • The engineer in this position should have strong fundamental engineering knowledge and the ability to articulate their knowledge throughout the engineering organization through creation of test specifications, part design, and best practices documentation.   

  • Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies. 

  • Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • BSME or equivalent required.   MSME preferred.  

  • Deep demonstrated expertise in technical aspects of engine systems.  

  • Oil system development experience utilizing physical testing and simulation.  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.  

  • Broad background in engineering technical disciplines that include vibration, heat transfer, stress, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and controls.  

  • Project management skills necessary to create and execute test plans.  

  • Ability to use ProE or equivalent CAD tools to model components.  

  • Understanding of FEA tools used to predict stress and heat transfer.  

  • Knowledge of high temperature material properties.  

  • Experience with pressure transducers, temperature transducers, flow meters, accelerometers, microphones, and other measuring instruments.  

  • Knowledge of high temperature instrumentation for measuring flow, pressure, temperature, imbalance, rotor motion, and vibration.  

This position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their Team Lead immediately.
