Senior Mining Permitting & Regulatory Manager

JDS is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Mining Permitting & Regulatory Manager with a strong background in natural resource development to join our team and drive growth within the Environment and Reclamation division.

The ideal candidate will have an education in engineering or environmental / biological science with focused experience in regulatory management and permitting requirements within the mining, construction, and/or environmental remediation sectors. In this position, the candidate will play a key role in providing complex and dynamic regulatory support and assistance with permitting (in various mine planning phases), mining and exploration project development, operational compliance, and compiling and submission of permit application packages. The role will require the candidate to work collaboratively with both internal and external resources and have the ability to manage client relationships effectively while upholding JDS core values. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast paced team to gain exposure on various mining and resource development projects across Canada.

The work schedule will primarily be office based with a 40-hour work week, with potential site visits and client meetings in various locations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform work such as:
  • Prepare and review regulatory documentation and permit applications
  • Identify and advise on regulatory risks that may be encountered during project planning, both operationally and during the permit application process and provide sound advice / mitigation strategies to navigate risks and ensure compliance / timely project approvals.
  • Compliance management during project execution.
  • Management of technical and environmental desktop scopes.
  • Management of subconsultants to represent client interest and objectives.

Key Competencies:

• Background in mining, remediation, and/or construction with a focus on Environmental, Biological or Engineering disciplines.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in regulatory and permitting processes within the natural resource development sectors.
• Coordinate and prepare regulatory applications for permits, licenses, and authorizations under federal, provincial, and territorial legislation (e.g., Mines Act, Environmental Management Act, Water Sustainability Act, Impact Assessment Act), ensuring alignment with project timelines and client, community and rights holders expectations.
• Monitor and interpret regulatory changes, advising project teams on evolving compliance obligations and supporting the implementation of environmental management plans, reporting requirements, and audit follow-up actions to maintain regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Understand the project development life cycle (e.g. exploration, Construction, Operations, Closure) and apply the requisite regulatory requirements applicable to each phase.
• Knowledge of environmental constraints during Project development (i.e. migratory and breeding bird windows, work in and around water, critical habitat zones, Old Growth Management Areas, etc.).
• Experience liaising and communicating with various Regulatory agencies.
• Demonstrated experience working with a range of external parties including communities, rights holders, partners and collaborators.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and technical writing skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and technical documents.
• Proficiency in a variety of computer programs (e.g., Office 365, Visio, Adobe Acrobat)
• University degree with eligibility to be registered as a Professional in BC or other jurisdictions
• Previous mining or industrial site experience as an owner is considered an asset.
• Valid Driver's license required (minimum of Class 5).
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Compensation:

• Compensation is based on experience/qualifications.
• Compensation is based on actual hours of work performed (hourly as opposed to salary).
• Travel time to/from a project site is paid from point of hire.
• Vacation starts at two weeks per year (included in hourly compensation). Additional un-paid time off is available based on workload.
• A Health Savings Account is provided.

Work Schedule:

• Work in the office is capped at 10 hours per day, with 8 hours per day as standard.
• Shift/Site work is capped at 12 hours per day.
• Travel required as/when needed.

Minimal camp/remote work is anticipated.
