Senior Metallurgist

Location: Trail, BC, Canada
Employment Type: Regular Full Time

Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Project Metallurgy, this position will temporarily report to the Technical Director, Processing while recruitment for the Manager role is underway. The Senior Metallurgist supports project development and operational improvement through expertise in extractive metallurgy and geometallurgy. The role leads metallurgical test work programs, provides technical input to studies and evaluations, and supports process optimization initiatives for new developments, expansions, and existing operations.

This position requires varying levels of domestic and international travel to support project and operating sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety, environmental and social rules and procedures
  • Provide metallurgical support and technical mentorship for new projects.
  • Conduct metallurgical analysis and technical interpretation of data.
  • Work closely with geological staff in selection of samples for test work on new projects to ensure accurate representation of rock types and to assess mineralogical variability.
  • Plan and lead metallurgical test work programs to continuously advance geometallurgical understanding.
  • Interpret metallurgical results with context from geological models to generate integrated geometallurgical performance models.
  • Develop process design criteria for new project flow sheets.
  • Interact with other technical groups (geology, mining, marketing, etc.) to advance project development goals.
  • Support EPCM firms as the Owner's metallurgical process representative.
  • Provide technical support during project construction and implementation phases.
  • Develop commissioning plans and assist with the start-up of new process facilities.
  • Coordinate metallurgical project activities within approved scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Lead external technical consultants, including development of work scopes, supervising progress and deliverables, and ensuring objectives are met.
  • Participate in strategic technical reviews as the need arises for the Company's interests.
  • Implement value-improving practices with a focus on safety, cost and economic parameters.
  • Run projects according to approved scopes of work, schedule and budget.


Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligible for registration, with 8-10 years of relevant metallurgical engineering experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in the processing of base and precious metal ores, with a detailed understanding of modern mineral processing technologies and plant design.
  • Construction, commissioning, and field experience supporting mining and mineral processing projects.
  • Ability to evaluate metallurgical test programs and process designs across a range of commodities, supported by strong technical writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience in budgeting, resource management and planning.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.


Pay Range: CAD $122,000 - $150,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
