Pomerleau is seeking a Senior MEP Operations Lead to support the WAHA Redevelopment Project, a complex healthcare initiative requiring strong technical expertise, leadership, and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
The MEP Senior Operations Lead will have a dual reporting relationship, reporting to the WAHA Project Director on project-related deliverables and outcomes driving execution, quality, and performance across all MEP scopes., and to the MEP Manager for technical leadership, guidance, and support.
This Toronto-based role will be primarily office-focused, with a requirement to conduct site inspections approximately every four weeks-progressing to more frequent visits as the project advances toward completion and commissioning.
What you will do
1. Provide MEP expertise for the WAHA Project - Act as an electromechanical reference on projects of great complexity or scope (design, construction, commissioning)
2. Execute the role of Senior MEP Operations Lead
a. Manage the MEP site teams providing guidance, and support growth and development of team members.
b. Review / action as needed on trade partner schedule deliverables and plan: look ahead schedules, submittal and commissioning schedules, overall trade project schedules
c. Review and approval of trade partner recovery schedules, as needed
d. Attend all relevant project meetings: short interval planning, design team meetings, schedule meetings, regular project meetings, commissioning meetings.
e. Review MEP trade partner submittal packages prior to official submittal to the consultant: for compliance, risk assessment, constructability and schedule and lead time
f. Engage / plan of any OFCI (owner furnished contractor installed) MEP equipment
i. Shop drawing review per above
ii. Arrival inspection, work with temporary storage provider & trade partner as needed
g. Review and comment on all MEP trade partner change order pricing, T&M work orders, and delay or other notices/claims
h. Actively engage in the project schedule development to ensure that a viable achievable schedule is created and maintained.
i. Review and support trade partners in review, preparation, and submission of RFIs
j. Drive, own commissioning planning, project closeout, and other key deliverables and process areas on a project specific basis. Approve Quality and Commissioning plans from our MEP trade partners and manage the third party Cx agent.
k. Regular site reviews and completing MEP progress reports
l. Ongoing active risk identification and risk management related to MEP scope
m. Review MEP trade partner progress claims/ other billings for accuracy and fairness
n. Participate in VDC/ BIM - clash detection and progress meetings, manage MEP trade partner engagement and deliverables
o. Ensure compliance with all Pomerleau and project specific MEP QA/QC plans and programs
p. Attend & monitor inspections by AHJ (authorities having jurisdiction)
q. Track, monitor and log all relevant inspection approvals, rejections, notices, etc.
r. Build a strong win/win relationship with the MEP consultants and MEP trade partners to support the project
s. Assist with building out MEP processes and best practices to be implemented across all Pomerleau projects
3. Support the estimating department as requested
4. Responsible for trade partner oversight & accountability:
a. Hold MEP trade partners accountable for performance, productivity, and adherence to contractual scope, schedule, and quality requirements
b. Proactively challenge trade partners on sequencing, constructability, staffing levels, and delivery strategies to ensure optimal outcomes
c. Drive a performance-oriented culture by setting clear expectations, tracking KPIs, and addressing gaps in real time
5. Commercial & contractual focus:
a. Safeguard company's commercial interests by rigorously managing scope compliance, change control, and cost exposure across all MEP packages
b. Identify, escalate, and mitigate risks related to trade partner performance, delays, and potential claims
c. Ensure all variations, back charges, and deficiencies are properly documented and enforced in alignment with contracts
This role could be for you if you have the following:
Core
• 15 + years of MEP construction experience.
• Licensed trade background (Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing) or Engineering designation preferred.
• PMP certification and LEED accreditation an asset.
• Minimum 5-10 years managing MEP scopes on highly complex projects.
• Demonstrated experience taking at least one major P3 project from procurement through design, construction, commissioning, turnover, and warranty (healthcare industry experience an asset)
• Experience managing MEP contracts valued in excess of $100M.
P3
• Deep understanding of Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) and P3 delivery models.
• Experience working within Project Agreements, Output Specifications, and compliance-driven environments.
• Familiarity with Independent Certifier, lenders' requirements, substantial completion milestones, and handover obligations.
Healthcare
• Extensive experience delivering complex hospital construction projects, including acute care facilities, operating rooms, diagnostic imaging suites, laboratories, pharmacy spaces, and central utility plants.
• Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) requirements
• Healthcare commissioning requirements
Leadership & Technical Attributes
• Ability to lead large multidisciplinary MEP teams.
• Strong communicator with a collaborative approach, able to build effective relationships across owners, consultants, designers, subcontractors, and operations teams.
• Calm, solutions-oriented leader with a demonstrated ability to mentor project teams and navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of Hospital MEP and ICAT systems.
• Extensive change management experience with the ability to negotiate and resolve complex subcontractor disputes.
• Proven track record managing contracts and cost assessment
