Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Subject Matter Expert provides technical leadership for nuclear mechanical systems, with emphasis on ASME piping and pressure vessel code compliance, pipe stress analysis, design verification, and organizational code certification support. This role serves as a trusted technical authority, mentor, and reviewer for complex mechanical engineering work supporting nuclear-quality projects and programs.

Location

  • The primary job locations include Lenexa, KS; Oak Ridge, TN; Lonetree, CO; Houston, TX; Aiken, SC. Occasional hybrid work permitted in coordination with your supervisor.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as the district senior technical expert for ASME piping and pressure vessel code requirements, including application to nuclear mechanical systems and components. Support and make recommendations to the company Chief Piping Engineer, as needed.
  • Support design verification activities to ensure mechanical design outputs comply with applicable codes, standards, project requirements, and quality assurance expectations.
  • Provide technical support for organizational ASME code certifications, audits, procedure development, and related compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with other subject matter experts, engineering disciplines, and districts to develop analytical capabilities and engineering tools required to achieve district business initiatives.
  • Develop engineering calculations and analyses as needed to support design verification and engineering tool development.
  • Mentor, train, and develop engineers and emerging subject matter experts through technical guidance, lessons learned, reviews, and knowledge-sharing practices.
  • Review and provide technical guidance for engineered pipe supports, pipe stress analysis, and design of mechanical systems.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with a minimum of 25 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional engineering license in good standing.
  • Regular participation in ASME activities to develop, review, and interpret relevant codes and standards.
  • Extensive experience applying ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and ASME piping code requirements in nuclear or highly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pipe stress analysis, preferably using Bentley AutoPIPE.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and their application to engineering design, verification, documentation, and certification activities.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear steam supply systems, mechanical design principles, and nuclear code compliance expectations.
  • Proven ability to conduct technical reviews, resolve complex engineering issues, and interpret technical requirements.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, developing technical talent, and supporting organizational capability growth.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (less than 20%).

Base Compensation: $200,000/yr - $210,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
