Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary:

Designs, develops and improves new or existing products and directs the building and testing of prototypes. Reports to the Director of Engineering; does not have direct supervisory responsibility, but directs the work of a Product Draftsman and Toolmaker as required. Plans and directs the design of prototypes to meet customer and internal requirements.

Establishes test requirements if not previously specified by the customer, and develops and directs the testing of new product prototypes to verify product reliability. Interfaces within the organization regarding ideas, drawings, and products, as well as external contacts with customers and vendors in the development of designs, to resolve problems and to provide prototypes.

Essential Responsibilities:

Analyzes and evaluates production requirements for new or modified test equipment methods, processes and procedures. Documents and prepares appropriate test procedures.

Interfaces with and provides technical support to production personnel for release of new test programs and procedures (hardware and software).

Designs electronic or mechanical prototypes of test equipment, orders parts and equipment as required, and completes documentation regarding applications, repair, etc.

Establishes test requirements if not previously specified by the customer, and develops and directs the testing of new product prototypes to verify product reliability.

Prepares design sketches, layouts, and schematics of standard and modified product as part of daily production support. Daily order processing and preparation of bills of materials and work orders for release to production.

Selects raw materials and components; develops specs for product.

Develops cost estimates based on specs.

Performs stress tests, analyzes data, prepares reports, and makes comparisons with similar proven designs.

Prepares preliminary and detailed design drawings using the Auto Cad or SolidWorks CAD package and directs the work of designers, drafters, and technicians as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Technical Functional Skills:

B.S. in mechanical engineering (M.S.M.E. preferred) or equivalent engineering education.

At least five years of directly related experience.

Solid knowledge of Cad systems.

Good mechanical, analytical and technical skills.

Good administrative, interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work as an individual contributor or team players.Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S.M.E. degree or a B.S. degree focused on Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
- At least four years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, including expertise in tool and/or machine design.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluating and analyzing capital appropriations.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
