Senior Mechanical Engineer | Madison, WI

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Madison, WI, to lead mechanical design efforts for moderate to complex projects in the vertical building industry. In this role, you will provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client-facing support while leading project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems. You'll also work within project budgets, assist with training and mentoring, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Technical or Project Management Path Available

Principal Responsibilities
• Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
• Utilize engineering software and tools to develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
• Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports
• Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong working relationships
• Provide in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence while implementing IMEG quality control processes
• Deliver technical training and mentoring to team members
• Assist in resolving field issues with limited support from senior staff
• Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering while contributing to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with mechanical systems
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
• Participate in project interviews and presentations

Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
• Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
• Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
• Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
• Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
