Position Overview:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on the Drives Engineering team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of Mercury Marine propulsion systems through both new product development and continuous product improvement initiatives. You will lead the design, validation, launch, and enhancement of drivetrain systems that power some of the most advanced marine products in the industry, including gearcases, transmissions, shafts, bearings, gears, housings, seals, clutches, and shift systems.

Working alongside experts in testing, manufacturing, supplier quality, service, and product development, you'll help deliver drivetrain systems known for performance, durability, and industry-leading reliability.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead the design, development, validation, and production release of mechanical drivetrain systems and components.
  • Develop innovative solutions that improve performance, durability, efficiency, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform engineering analysis of gears, shafts, bearings, housings, seals, and shift systems using analytical and simulation tools.
  • Drive concept generation, competitive benchmarking, trade studies, and technology development activities.
  • Lead investigations of field, warranty, testing, and manufacturing issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions that improve product quality, reliability, and robustness.
  • Analyze test, inspection, and field performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and execute DFMEAs, DVP&R activities, reliability assessments, and validation plans.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Service, and Current Product Engineering to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Establish engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices for drivetrain systems.
  • Support supplier development and component validation activities to improve product performance and quality.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, warranty reduction, cost optimization, and product excellence.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, drivetrain systems, power transmission, or related engineering fields.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering projects from concept through production implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of gears, bearings, shafts, sealing systems, and mechanical power transmission.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, failure investigations, corrective action development, and validation testing.
  • Strong communication, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering documentation and GD&T.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with marine propulsion systems, powertrain systems, or industrial drivetrain products.
  • Experience supporting both new product development and current product improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Creo and Teamcenter or comparable CAD/PLM systems.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T, Design for Manufacturability, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with DFMEA, Six Sigma, DFSS, DMAIC, Shainin, or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with FEA, durability analysis, bearing analysis, or gear design.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.


The anticipated pay range for this position is 86,500 - 126,800 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for .
