Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input related to CADMATIC processes and support project coordination activities.
  • Mentor Junior Designers to facilitate team development.

SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN TECHNOLOGIST

the day-to-day

As a Senior Mechanical Design Technologist at Genoa, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Create and develop detailed 3D CAD and CADMATIC models for marine vessels, floating structures, and associated mechanical systems and equipment in accordance with project specifications and design standards.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain technical drawings, design documentation, and design files for marine and mechanical systems using CAD and CADMATIC software.
  • Assist in developing design layouts for structural components and shipboard systems while incorporating design revisions, engineering changes, and client feedback into existing models and drawings.
  • Support senior designers and engineers by preparing and reviewing design packages and functional drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements, standards, and specifications.
  • Verify design outputs for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, perform quality checks on work products, and assist in reviewing the work of other designers to maintain compliance with project standards.
  • Provide technical input related to CADMATIC modelling and drafting, contribute to project coordination activities, and support project teams in meeting schedules, deliverables, and budget requirements.
  • Communicate with internal teams and clients as required to support design development, participate in project meetings, and contribute ideas to improve CADMATIC processes, workflows, and overall team efficiency.
  • Mentor Junior Designers to foster the team's development.


THE REQUIREMENTS

We are in search of an individual who has:
  • Completed a two or three-year college program in engineering technology, a degree or diploma in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and technical training.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience or demonstrated performance in Detailed Design within the Shipbuilding or a related industry, with advanced proficiency in design development, 3D modeling, and technical drawing standards.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of ShipConstructor, with mandatory experience using CADMATIC, AutoCAD software, document control systems and database management.
  • Experience in leading a team or supervisory position is favorable.
  • Experience working in a shipyard or production environment.
  • Demonstrated effective communication across a variety of disciplines.
  • Proven ability to work independently to develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Strong technical writing skills including the skill to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities.
  • Exercise sound judgements and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions and corporate philosophy.
