Raytheon is seeking a Senior Mechanical Component Engineer to join the Parts, Libraries and Obsolescence (PLO) Department, primarily supporting programs in the Boston, MA area.

This is a remote based position.

The selected candidate will perform and/or assist in the performance of Components Engineering or Applications Engineering tasks supporting airborne, ground, and tactical platforms/programs in the proposal, Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), production and support phases.

This position will require day-to-day interface with designers, suppliers, Product Development Engineers (PDE), Parts Obsolescence Lead/Managers (POL), Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Program Management Office (PMO), and other disciplines. This role also entails supporting components approval through a Parts and Materials Control Board (PMCB) comprised of members both internal to Raytheon and from customer organizations. Some travel to integration sites, customer facilities, and subcontractor facilities may be required.

What You Will Do:
  • Understand program requirements and Statements of Work (SOWs) to determine program component environmental / characteristic application requirements.
  • Provide technology insertion and parts selection/standardization guidance while adhering to business, component parametric, and environmental application constraints.
  • Generate and revise component drawings and associated verification data packages.
  • Perform alternate part investigations and generate comparison matrices showing the differences and similarities of the parts.
  • Interface with multiple internal stakeholders and external suppliers/manufacturers to develop component risk and verification delineation.
  • Facilitate component selection and libraries application through the coordination and generation of the program Bill of Material (BOM) in a collaboration toolset.
  • Present component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in support of design reviews for a program.


Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience with any combination of the following:
    • Experience with interconnect devices, fasteners, or other mechanical-based components.
    • Knowledge of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in military and aerospace flight applications.
    • Knowledge of Component MIL and industrial (SAE, NAS, ASME, ASTM) specifications and standards, test specifications, and associated QPLs and QMLs.
    • Experience with BOM (Bill of Material) development and management for developmental and production programs.


Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related science or engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of component failure modes by commodity.
  • Knowledge of component reliability process monitors and/or qualification methodologies.
  • Experience with the use or adaptation of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products in a military system.
  • Demonstrated experience with development, design and project level responsibility on systems or major subsystems.
  • Experience working with external suppliers and supplier technical management.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance; current clearance preferred.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
