Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Materials and Corrosion Engineer with significant experience supporting upstream, midstream, and downstream operations and projects. This role is part of the Corporate Asset Integrity team and provides technical support on Pressure Equipment Integrity PEI-related matters for operating sites and projects across Canada and the U.S.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 12 years of progressive experience in materials and corrosion engineering,
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta APEGA
  • preferably supporting industrial operations in complex asset-intensive environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of materials performance, corrosion, and damage mechanisms within the oil and gas industry, including upstream, midstream, and downstream applications
  • Experience with wear mechanisms and material performance in mining and mineral processing environments is considered an asset

Responsibilities:
  • Provide materials and corrosion engineering support for routine operations, major projects, and planned outages to ensure the safe, reliable, and long-term performance of operating assets
  • Support the integrity management of pressure equipment, piping, tanks, pipelines, fired heaters, pressure relief devices, downhole tubulars, offshore equipment, and mining-related assets
  • Assess materials performance and corrosion or degradation mechanisms by analyzing process conditions, operating data, equipment design, and inspection history to identify threats, evaluate risk, and predict damage rates and remaining life
  • Develop and support risk-based integrity and inspection strategies, including RBI assessments, inspection plans, Integrity Operating Windows (IOWs), Special Emphasis Inspection Programs (SEIPs), Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) assessments, and turnaround scope reviews
  • Apply and interpret corrosion monitoring, inspection, and NDE techniques to assess asset condition, validate degradation mechanisms, and support effective mitigation and inspection planning
  • Lead or support failure investigations, fitness-for-service assessments, remaining life evaluations, and the development of temporary and permanent repair recommendations to maintain asset integrity and operational continuity
  • Define and oversee materials, welding, coatings, refractory, fabrication, and QA/QC requirements for new construction, maintenance, repairs, and replacements, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal requirements
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, best practices, and training materials, and provide technical guidance to support competency development, continuous improvement, and sound engineering decision-making


Location and other Key details:
  • The position will be based at the Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Center at 150 - 6th Ave S.W
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with business travel to sites as required
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
