JOB SUMMARY:

The Transportation Logistics Operations Senior Manager, Converting is a key member of the Transportation team reporting to the Director of Logistics. In this role, you will be accountable for shipment distribution globally across various modes: TL, LTL, and Export. This role manages all freight activities by determining the most advantageous and economical methods of logistics shipping to meet customer expectations and to ensure that all shipments are delivered to the established performance levels. The Transportation Logistics Operation Senior Manager, Converting is the subject matter expert for Global Transportation and will have experience in providing best-in-class strategies and tactics. They will collaborate internally cross functionally with production planning, facilities, customers, executives, and suppliers. Prior experience required managing Carrier/Forwarder relationships and providing key metrics to help support the transportation needs of a business or 3PL organization through data and logic reasoning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
  • Key manager on Logistics team to engage and build strong relationships with sales executives and managers on the status of transportation capabilities, issues, and opportunities for key customers.
  • Engage customer service and operations planning teams in the businesses regularly to jointly manage risk and service considerations for customers. Collaborates with production planning, facilities, suppliers, and various stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives while also supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Aligns Demand and Supply plans with downstream transportation capacity planning processes to reduce waste and support logistics execution.
  • Actively suggests reasonable assumption where good data does not exist to keep the process moving forward, while making plans to address the root cause of the missing data, and to tell the story of what is transpiring from an execution front.
  • Partners with Procurement team on vendor selection and awards to consistently deliver outstanding transportation service across all modes, globally: LTL, Truck Load, Rail, Ocean Freight.
  • Plans and directs the day-to-day transportation functions, including the work assignments of employees, to ensure that department standards for efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness are met or exceeded. Implements tools to gauge performance and holds team accountable on delivery.
  • Establishes and communicates department goals, monitoring employee performance to ensure they are met or exceeded.
  • Provides training, development, and performance evaluations of department staff; works with Human Resources to department hiring to ensure selection of qualified employees along with continued development and growth of existing talent personnel.
  • Develops, audits, and manages the budget and operations costs to ensure efficient operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (cont):
  • Supports and owns the development of Logistics systems and tools including: Mercury Gate, Four Kites, and others. Collaborates cross functionally with various stakeholders IT, Customer service, carriers, vendors to build/upgrade tools in Logistics department focused on supporting shipment execution
  • Ensure continuity in coverage 24/7. Manage after hours and weekend capability with supplemental resources and schedule priorities during peak periods.
  • Oversee Transportation OTIF daily, root cause investigations, and corrective actions. Hold suppliers and employees accountable to performance standards. Work with plant and warehouse leaders to address service issues.
  • Direct TMS supervisors in the training of associates on GPI/LCC processes, policies, and procedures to conform with external/internal audit guidelines and SOX compliance.
  • In partnership with Director of Logistics, Lead the development and implementation of GPI's Supply Chain Visibility initiative to enable real-time tracking and transparency of shipment status for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Expand team's ability to utilize Four Kites tracking and other tools to anticipate and resolve service issues before they occur.
  • Develop better tools for team to visualize key risk indicators and enable faster intervention. Lead execution of Logistics Control Tower rollout.
  • Upgrade our communication frequency, skills, and impact. Interact directly with business leaders to frequently communicate the status of key issues and initiatives.
  • Manage employee performance and coach, recognize, discipline as appropriate.
  • Ensure completion and regular updates of development plans for every employee.
  • Attract, hire, and retain top talent.
  • Ensure all Human Resource policies and guidelines for direct/indirect reports are implemented.
Education & Experience:

BA degree or related work experience required in lieu of degree.
