MTS Senior Tax Manager - M&A and Turnaround & Restructuring and advise clients on multistate tax issues arising from mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, distressed situations, and restructuring transactions. This role offers the opportunity to work with clients and Deloitte teams on complex transaction-driven matters that align tax planning with business objectives. Work you'll do As an MTS Senior Tax Manager - M&A / T&R on the Multistate Tax Services team, you will be responsible for...
- Leading multistate tax aspects of M&A, divestiture, due diligence, debt restructuring, and turnaround engagements for corporate and private equity clients
- Managing client relationships, identifying opportunities, and bringing Deloitte's broader tax and advisory capabilities to address transaction and restructuring needs
- Advising clients on state and local tax implications of entity structuring, post-deal integration, legal entity rationalization, and distressed business matters
- Overseeing engagement economics, staffing, and delivery quality across multiple concurrent client projects
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including deal teams, legal counsel, finance leaders, and other specialists, throughout the transaction lifecycle

The team Deloitte's Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group is the largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in the United States, with more than 1,000 professionals nationwide. Our professionals include former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology professionals with extensive multistate tax experience. Collectively, the team brings deep experience across all 50 states, including state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy
Qualifications Required:
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 8+ years of multistate tax experience, including experience in mergers and acquisitions, transaction due diligence, entity restructuring, and/or turnaround and restructuring matters
- CPA certification or willingness to obtain, if qualified to sit for the CPA; if not qualified, licensed attorney, Enrolled Agent, or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- Ability to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- One of the following Accreditations obtained:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled agent
Preferred:
- Advanced degree such as Master of Tax, Juris Doctor, and/or Master of Laws
- Public accounting experience within the Big 4, a law firm, or industry tax organization
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Virginia, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to Virginia and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $173,025 to $288,375.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
