Job Description

This role is 4 days onsite (Monday - Thursday) at one of the below locations:
  • Boca Raton, FL 33496
  • Austin, TX 78729

The Senior Manager, Retail Technology leads the design, delivery, and support of software systems and supporting infrastructure that power retail operations - e-commerce, point-of-sale (POS), inventory/order management, omnichannel fulfillment, and store-facing applications. This role owns technical direction for one or more engineering teams, balances delivery speed with system reliability, and partners closely with Product, Merchandising, Store Operations, and Architecture to ensure retail platforms and their underlying infrastructure scale for peak seasonal demand.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and grow a blended team of ~5 FTEs and 15+ contractors across retail application domains (e-commerce, POS, OMS, inventory, fulfillment, or similar), including FTEs in team-lead/manager roles overseeing contractor pods.
  • Own the technical roadmap for assigned retail applications, balancing new feature delivery, platform modernization, and technical debt reduction.
  • Drive engineering practices: code quality standards, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and incident response, consistently applied across both FTE and contractor resources.
  • Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with Architecture/Platform teams to align on integration patterns, API standards, and cloud infrastructure (Azure-native where applicable).
  • Manage staffing-partner and SaaS vendor relationships: contractor sourcing/onboarding, SOW/rate-card oversight, performance management of staff-aug resources, and vendor relationships tied to the retail application stack (e.g., POS providers, OMS platforms, payment processors).
  • Ensure application performance and availability during high-traffic retail events (holiday peak, promotional campaigns, store rollouts).
  • Own capacity planning, budget input (including contractor spend/headcount mix), and staffing strategy for the team.
  • Establish and monitor SLAs/KPIs for uptime, deployment frequency, defect rates, and lead time to production.
  • Champion security and compliance requirements relevant to retail systems (PCI-DSS for payment flows, data privacy for customer/loyalty data), including access provisioning and offboarding discipline for contractor turnover.
  • Participate in on call/escalation leadership for production incidents affecting retail operations.
  • Drive current strategic initiatives including introducing a modern POS solution; integrating and building out new store and business capabilities; and supporting in-store payment infrastructure - hardware terminals, PIN pads, scan guns, and mobile apps - along with associated software, with a focus on secure payment processing and driving sales growth.

Education and Experience:
  • Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Area of Study: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 6
  • Type of Experience: 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Proven experience delivering retail, e-commerce, or omnichannel applications at scale.
    • Strong background in modern software architecture: microservices, APIs/integration patterns, cloud-native design (Azure).
    • Experience managing engineering teams through full SDLC: planning, development, QA, deployment, and support.
    • Familiarity with retail-specific systems such as POS, OMS, WMS, inventory management, or payment processing.
    • Track record of managing production systems with high availability requirements, including incident response and root-cause analysis.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills - able to translate between technical and business audiences (Product, Merchandising, Store Ops, Finance).
    • Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery models.
    • Demonstrated experience managing blended teams of FTEs and contractors/staff-augmentation resources at scale (10+ contractors), including staffing-partner relationships, SOW oversight, and performance management of contracted staff.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with Microsoft/Azure ecosystem: Azure DevOps, Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Files, or similar Azure-native services.
    • Experience with retail peak-season readiness planning (Black Friday/Cyber Monday-scale traffic).
    • Exposure to PCI-DSS compliance requirements for payment-processing systems.
    • Experience with legacy system modernization or platform migrations in a retail environment.
    • Familiarity with observability/monitoring tooling (Dynatrace, Splunk, Azure Monitor, or similar).
    • Experience partnering with central architecture/platform teams to align enterprise standards ("paved roads") rather than bespoke solutions.
