Senior Manager, R&D Procurement, Biomarkers Category. This position may be based at a Johnson & Johnson location in
Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Beerse, Belgium.
Position Overview The Senior Manager, R&D Procurement, Biomarkers Category will develop, lead, and manage the Biomarkers category strategy supporting Innovative Medicine R&D Clinical Development. This role will translate scientific and clinical business needs into market-informed category strategies, supplier strategies, sourcing approaches, contracting pathways, and governance models that enable access to current and emerging biomarker technologies while delivering procurement value, business continuity, quality, compliance, and speed to innovation.
The role will partner closely with Biomarker Development, Clinical Trial teams, Therapeutic Area stakeholders, Partnerships/Vendor Management, Legal, Finance, Quality, Data Science/Digital partners, Global Services sourcing, and other Procurement category teams. The role is expected to manage a dynamic and technically complex supply market across exploratory biomarkers, primary and secondary biomarker assays, companion diagnostics, assay development, specialized testing platforms, and adjacent laboratory services.
Category Scope - Exploratory biomarker testing services and custom biomarker assay work performed by external labs.
- Primary and secondary biomarker assay services, where sourced directly or in partnership with Central Labs.
- Companion diagnostics and assay-related services that support clinical development needs.
- Technology platforms including molecular technologies, cellular technologies, immunoassays, pathology, next-generation sequencing, digital pathology, multi-omics, and related emerging capabilities.
Responsibilities Category strategy and business partnership - Determine global Innovative Medicine business needs for the Biomarkers category across Clinical and Exploratory Biomarkers, including evolving therapeutic area demand, technology shifts, supply market dynamics, and pipeline-driven requirements.
- Develop, implement, and refresh the global Biomarkers category strategy, including category guidance, supplier segmentation, preferred vendor models, governance approach, contracting strategy and implementation plans.
- Partner with internal scientific, clinical, biomarker, business development, vendor management, finance, quality, legal, and digital stakeholders to align procurement strategy to business priorities and clinical trial needs.
- Translate complex scientific and supplier-market information into executive-ready insights, decision recommendations, and clear implementation plans for procurement and business leadership.
Sourcing, market intelligence, and supplier strategy - Identify market insights, benchmarks, peer-to-peer learnings, innovation signals, and supplier capability trends to create value and address current and future business needs.
- Develop sourcing approaches that balance assurance of supply, quality, service, cost, innovation, compliance, and speed to decision.
- Support contracting pathways that enable both strategic supplier partnerships and agile test-and-learn models for low-risk, exploratory biomarker technologies where appropriate.
- Support major sourcing events, RFx processes, market refreshes, supplier evaluations and negotiations.
Supplier relationship management and governance - Develop, implement, lead, and monitor supplier relationship management strategies for key Biomarker Suppliers, using the procurement supplier management model to drive performance, innovation, risk mitigation, and commercial value.
- Partner with Vendor Management, Central Labs Category Lead and business stakeholders to ensure supplier governance, escalation, quality oversight, contracting cadence, and stakeholder engagement models are clear and effective.
- Monitor and mitigate supplier, market, regulatory, geopolitical, technology, performance, and contracting risks using procurement tools, processes, and cross-functional governance.
- Support supplier onboarding, transition planning, preferred vendor utilization, annual rebate/payment term reconciliation, and supplier performance reviews as needed.
Execution, savings, and operating model delivery - Deliver against business plan commitments, including savings, cost management, cash flow, supplier management, and traceable impact goals assigned to the Biomarkers category.
- Use the R&D Procurement operating model effectively, partnering with Agile, Global Services sourcing, category peers, and cross-functional partners to deliver sourcing and contracting outcomes.
- Drive disciplined project execution, transparent scorecards, milestone tracking, leadership updates, and issue/risk mitigation for major category initiatives.
- Leverage approved digital, data, analytics, and GenAI tools to improve insight generation, supplier mapping, contract intelligence, spend analytics, RFx preparation, and category strategy outcomes.
Qualifications Education - Required: Bachelor's degree.
- Preferred: Master's degree or advanced degree in sciences, business, supply chain, procurement, or related field.

Preferred Experience and Skills - Working experience in the pharmaceutical, MedTech, clinical development, laboratory services, diagnostics, central lab, biomarker, or CRO industry.
- Experience with biomarkers, specialty labs, companion diagnostics, assay development, clinical trial services, central laboratories, or adjacent R&D/clinical/ Supply Chain categories.
- Experience working across geographies and with supplier relationships that cross category teams, business units, and sectors.
- Experience using data, analytics, market intelligence, and approved GenAI tools to support sourcing, negotiation, contract review, spend analytics, supplier segmentation, or category strategy.
- Experience leading or supporting a category strategy refresh, including assessing business needs, supplier market dynamics, stakeholder priorities, and implementation plans to advance category maturity and measurable business value.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with business development, commercial, marketing, scientific, technology, regulatory, quality, finance, legal, and procurement stakeholders.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :$122,000- $212,750
