The Opportunity We are looking for a
Senior Manager, Project Management Office, to join and lead a team of project professionals focused on the delivery of transformative projects across Canada. In this role, you will oversee the initiation, development, management and implementation of projects at Magnet, as well as select and direct the appropriate staff resources to execute project goals, objectives, and to ensure project success. You will facilitate engagement, training, education, and outreach activities targeted to industries, employers, or other associations to build relationships, new business and technology partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Works with the Project Managers to develop, manage and deliver on talent related initiatives including defining and developing project scope and objectives, establishing deadlines and deliverables, and appropriating the necessary resources, equipment, space and other project requirements.
- Monitors project specific status reports, including potential issues and risks that may impact/impede project delivery schedules.
- Reviews and negotiates contracts and informs funding proposals as needed.
- Supervises Project Managers and project teams, ensuring established project management practices and techniques are observed. Provides guidance and expert advice to project teams to ensure that project deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and to specifications.
- Presents project updates and reports to Senior Management and to external clients, as appropriate.
- Works closely with Project Managers to manage client relationships, day-to-day interactions and communications, and receipt of timely information.
- Ensures client needs are understood, alternative solutions to problems are evaluated, agreements are reached and documented, and client needs are translated into executable project plans.
- Seeks new opportunities and develops key strategic relationships and partnership across Canada and internationally which aligns with Magnet's goals and objectives.
- Develops strategic networks with current and potential industry and community partners, government representatives from all levels and other target audiences to explore and secure new projects.
- Maintains expert proficiency of the Magnet platform and integrated platforms to direct technology improvements and to inform on the evolving of system demonstrations and training with current and prospective partners.
- Participates in short and long-range strategic planning and conducts the necessary research to gather information relevant to the projects, (I.E. industry trends, issues, developments, competitive programs, potential partners and collaborators).
- Forecasts and provides insight on trends and identifying opportunities for increased collaboration and supports Magnet's strategic directions. Makes recommendations on risk management, fiscal accountability responsibility and issues resolution to ensure the successful planning and execution of key projects.

- Completion of a university degree in Education, Business Administration or a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience working in a project management/administration / business development role within the private, public or broader public sector.
- Experience with labour market planning, organizational change management and training, workforce development, local and regional economic development, regional innovation ecosystem(s), employment service providers, university and college employment supports (pre and post-graduation), public and private funding.
- Experience planning and managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience in building strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, communities and industry partners.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to build and motivate project teams.
- Strong financial and business management skills including ability to draft budget proposals, forecast expenses and monitor relevant project and contract account.
- Strong presentation skills including ability to deliver engaging and informative presentations that clearly explain technical information to non-technical audiences and clients.
