Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Product and Channel Marketing, Sun Life Global Investments (SLGI), the Senior Manager, Product Marketing is responsible for leading the development and execution of product marketing strategies for mutual fund and ETF wealth solutions for the Retail channel. This includes all product launches, updates and marketing support of regulatory filings, investment solution-specific marketing material (brochures, websites, videos, presentations) and other product initiatives.

In fulfilling the role, the incumbent will work closely with various teams including Product Management, Product Development, Compliance, Sales, Digital Marketing, Design and Creative and the Investment Communications team as appropriate with the objective of delivering effective and high-quality product marketing support.

What will you do?
  • Work closely with Product Management, Product Development, Sales, the Digital Marketing team and Compliance to ensure a consolidated and fully integrated approach to product marketing that helps achieve the business objectives and sales goals.
  • Develop an in-depth and ongoing knowledge of SLGI's product line-up and overall industry trends:
    • Obtain a thorough understanding of SLGI's investment product options
    • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape from both an investment product offering and marketing trends perspective
    • Understand how the Retail Sales teams position and promote Sun Life Global Investments solutions
    • Understand how Advisors, use investment products and how to position our products to those advisors
    • Understand financial markets and global economic trends
    • Recognize and interpret industry trends and make recommendations for strategies that support the business in achieving their goals
    • Recommend marketing tactics (i.e. sales collateral, product positioning ideas, advertising, e-mail blasts, webinars, etc.)
  • Create, lead and manage the development and execution of all product launch marketing strategies including building the go to market strategy, aligning tactics to the strategy, building new marketing materials and landing pages (web) in collaboration with Product Management and Sales teams.
  • Update and fine-tune existing marketing collateral, web content and tools.
  • Multi-task multiple projects at the same time while ensuring timelines are met
  • Create, lead and manage the development and execution of new marketing strategies for the existing product shelf.
  • Develop relationships with the Retail Sales team and solicit feedback to help measure successes & identify areas for improvement with regards to marketing initiatives.
  • Identify measures of success (i.e. sales, assets, requests, etc.)


What do you need to succeed?
  • Previous experience within the financial services industry, specifically the investment area, a must
  • Demonstrated ability to develop product marketing strategies and positioning that ultimately contribute to an increase in sales
  • Mutual fund and/or ETF, marketing or product management experience required
  • Excellent creative writing and communication skills
  • Self-confident and strong ability to work effectively and independently within tight deadlines, adapt to changing deadlines and ability to prioritize multiple deliverables within a cross-functional team environment with a variety of reporting levels and varying skills/competencies
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Flexible individual with creative problem-solving & strong analytical skills
  • Ability to confidently build relationships and effectively engage with junior colleagues through to senior executives
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, or Marketing
  • Minimum 6 years of investment product marketing and/or product management experience in the financial services industry
  • Previous experience as a product manager or product analyst considered an asset
  • Solid understanding of investment products and specifically mutual funds and ETFs
  • Completion of the CSC required
  • CFA charter holder or candidate/CIM designation preferred
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Professional & tactful in client dealings
  • Keen ability to influence and accomplish work through other people and functional departments
  • Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources and make recommendations;
  • High proficiency in MS Office (i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
