This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
You will lead the team responsible for providing shipside support for assembly, integration, testing, and verification of the New Glenn avionics subsystem. This role is critical to ensuring the assembled vehicle and integrated avionics suite perform as designed and meet all engineering requirements and performance expectations. The team serves as the primary technical resource supporting Manufacturing Engineering, assembly technicians, and Production Test teams through expert troubleshooting, nonconformance triage, compliance assessment, and design feedback. Success is measured by delivering a flight-ready vehicle on-schedule with a fully validated avionics suite.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Team Leadership & Development: Guide activities of avionics shipside liaison engineers; foster culture of technical excellence and deep subject matter expertise; develop team capabilities through mentoring and training; manage performance, hiring, and resource allocation
- Operational Support: Enable assembly, manufacturing, and integrated test teams through technical expertise, rapid troubleshooting, nonconformance triage, and design feedback
- Performance Verification: Confirm assembled vehicle and avionics suite meet engineering requirements and perform as designed
- Integration Leadership: Serve as escalation point for complex technical problems and primary technical resource for integration teams
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of avionics or equivalent integrated electronics systems experience
- 3+ years of technical leadership or team management supporting vehicle operations/integration activities
- Demonstrated expertise in avionics / integrated electronics systems architecture, performance, and troubleshooting
- Strong background in systems engineering, requirements, and verification
- Experience with aerospace quality standards (AS9100, DO-254, DO-178) and compliance processes or equivalents
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle avionics integration and assembly
- Direct hands-on experience supporting manufacturing engineering and assembly technicians
- Background in integrated vehicle testing and performance validation
- Familiarity with avionics hardware platforms and real-time embedded systems
- Experience with nonconformance and risk management processes
- Knowledge of aviation/aerospace regulatory environment
