We are searching for the best talent to join our team as the Senior Manager, IM NA Public Affairs, Canada. This role has a preferred office location of Toronto, CA with consideration given to Washington, DC.

Role Overview

The Senior Manager, IM NA Public Affairs, Canada, leads public affairs strategy and activation supporting access, healthcare policy, issues preparedness, and reputation priorities. This role activates global public affairs strategies locally, ensuring alignment with Canadian healthcare policy dynamics, market access, enterprise and therapeutic area objectives, in close coordination with Communications, Market Access, and Commercial partners. The role may also have the opportunity to take on public affairs work across North America, including in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement Canada public affairs strategies aligned to enterprise, access, and therapeutic area priorities.
  • Conceive and drive compelling public affairs initiatives to contribute to healthcare policy conversations and help optimize operating conditions.
  • Partner cross-functionally (e.g., Government Affairs, Market Access, Stakeholder Engagement, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, and Commercial) to deliver integrated policy, issues management, and reputation strategies.
  • Develop and implement launch-readiness communications and public affairs plans to support new therapies, assets, and/or indications in the Canadian market.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for media relations and counsel leaders on external engagement considerations, aligned to the Canadian healthcare environment.
  • Help to coordinate J&J's approach to maintaining strong and lasting relationships with key external partners, including interactions and relationship building with policy-influencers.
  • Support issues preparedness, narrative pull-through, critical incident response, and reputation stewardship.
  • Lead and coordinate agency/partner support to deliver on public affairs, communications, and stakeholder plans.
  • Partner with the HUB and global public affairs leaders to ensure consistency, scalability, and alignment to global strategy.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in public affairs, government affairs, policy, or communications.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian healthcare policy landscape and the broader public conversation on healthcare and the life sciences.
  • Outstanding writing and communications skills, with experience translating complex topics for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior leaders; comfort operating in a matrix environment and leading through influence.
  • Good judgment and experience supporting issues management and reputation-critical decisions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Educational concentration in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field.
  • Healthcare/pharmaceutical, government, or healthcare consulting experience.
  • French language capability.

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation -120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
