Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager, responsible for directing the monthly financial close and external financial reporting of the Company. Oversees the preparation and filing of all annual and quarterly SEC financial reports, and the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in those filings as appropriate. Monitors & interprets pending & newly issued reporting rule changes and assesses impact to the Company. Meets and summarizes impact for CEO, CFO, and Controller. Participates as a team member in various Company initiatives providing guidance and advice on accounting and financial matters.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the accurate and timely preparation and analysis of monthly GAAP financial reports, SEC reports (10-Q, 10-K, proxy statement, and 8-K). Keeps abreast of changes in SEC financial reporting. Communicates the changes to peers in the Lines of Businesses and Controller's division and directs the implementation of said changes into existing reporting process. Updates XBRL tagging for new taxonomy.
  • Responsible for overseeing the programs, processes and managing the employees of the Financial Reporting Department including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development. Attract, retain, and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resource forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
  • Educates staff on systems and processes. Provides cross training with other team members to maintain the appropriate level of back up and redundancies. Supports the Bank's initiatives with system and process integration and updates. Serves as a resource in project teams to ensure accounting methodology is in accordance with applicable GAAP. Identifies, recommends and develops new/revised processes, policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations and adequate internal controls. Provides guidance and oversight in the implementation, upgrade, ongoing maintenance and best practices of business unit technology solutions with regards to financial tracking and reporting. Maximizes the use of technology wherever possible to complete tasks and assignments.
  • Manages vendors and performs annual vendor management review as required by bank policies. Creates, tests, and maintains business recovery plans for the section. Assists with developing and updating operating budgets and plans.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related area from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience. CPA preferred.
  • Level is dependent on years of experience and size/complexity of prior positions held.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience with a financial institution in positions of increasing responsibility for accounting, finance, financial reporting and/or internal auditing or equivalent work experience. Minimum 5 years of leadership experience. Requires a strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, a firm understanding of SEC and regulatory reporting standards and other relevant matters. Must be capable of identifying issues and exposures relative to financial statements and their impact on the Company.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint) or similar software. Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.
  • Must possess a good understanding of the banking business and economics. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Able to express complex ideas in concise and simple terms. Requires ability to conduct formal meetings and presentations. Must have excellent problem solving skills and be able to develop effective solutions that consider efficiency, internal controls, and impact to financial results. Requires the ability to make projections and exercise sound judgment. Must be able to identify inefficiencies in processes and make the necessary adjustments. Able to work effectively with department staff, as well as those outside immediate area, and provide critical feedback to staff to optimize their performance. Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized, and independent. Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities, while managing group. Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed. Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license, and able to commute as required. Able to travel by air.
