The team Toronto Metropolitan University's Facilities Management and Development oversees the development, operations and maintenance of the university's buildings, facilities, and grounds across four million square feet of space in 42 buildings on 27 acres of land.
The Opportunity How do you ensure that every financial decision strengthens the future of a growing university? As the Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Control, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy behind one of Toronto Metropolitan University's most diverse and dynamic portfolios. Partnering closely with Facilities Management & Development (FMD) leadership, you'll help ensure that complex financial decisions from capital projects and real estate initiatives to operational planning are supported by robust analysis, sound financial stewardship, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
In this strategic leadership role, you'll lead the department's budgeting and financial planning processes while developing sophisticated financial models that provide meaningful insights to support informed decision-making. You'll leverage technology, analytics, and innovative approaches to streamline financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery across the department.
Working collaboratively with the University's Financial Services and a broad range of internal stakeholders, you'll ensure financial resources are effectively allocated, projects remain financially sustainable, and operations comply with university policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Your ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations will help leaders make confident decisions that support TMU's evolving campus and long-term strategic priorities.

QualificationsTo help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree program in business or public administration, strategic and financial planning and administration, real estate or in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 7-8 years of progressively increasing directly related management experience, in financial and resources management, including strategic and financial planning, administration, and reporting, human resources, and physical resources management.
- Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.
- Experience in technology solutions for efficiency and change management.
- Knowledge of financial accounting standards and regulatory requirements (example GAAP, IFRS etc.).
- Industry knowledge of project cost control, mathematical aptitude and knowledge of accounting methods as well as familiarity with facilities management, construction, leasing, and real estate matters.
