Job Description

The Senior Manager, Engineering Digital Technology will be responsible for leading development and execution of all Digital engineering solutions within NA. The successful candidate will be responsible the current Continuous Diagnostic and Serialization programs, as well as support the ongoing data technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Develop and manage large-scale capital engineering projects for automation, IoT and continuous improvement solutions, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Health & Safety, Finance, Quality) and external suppliers to drive project success, managing stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the preparation of Capex documents, including cost estimates, project justifications, equipment layouts, and technical specifications, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Manage equipment installation and commissioning, including contractor supervision, safety compliance, and ensuring adherence to all environmental regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and increasing operational efficiency through the adoption of advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and digital twin models.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of proper training programs and operational documentation (as-built drawings, manuals, spare parts lists) to ensure seamless handover to operational teams.
  • Maintain strict financial control over capital projects, accurately forecasting expenditures, managing budgets, and ensuring fiduciary compliance throughout project execution.
  • Champion Zero Harm and environmental standards, ensuring projects meet the highest safety requirements and adhere to regulatory standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Develop the strategies and specific technologies to effectively deliver on the $100-150MM asset digitization program spanning the US & Canada
  • Actively grow and develop a team of highly skilled engineers throughout NA.
  • Lead Transformational initiatives collaborating with cross-functional teams in alignment with long-term goals and objectives as it relates to the digitization and tracking of assets.
  • Ensure global alignment to capture and implement best practices to drive sustainable and efficient operations across all regions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Health & Safety, and Quality teams to develop, seek approval, and successfully implement Capital Equipment Projects in accordance with established schedule, cost, and performance standards.
  • Lead team in the development of CapEx documents to include cost estimates and project justification.
  • Manage team activities associated with capital project execution to include equipment layout and scope development, requests for quote, purchase order generation, contractor selection, on-site supervision during the installation and start-up of equipment, and proper tagging and accounting of new equipment.
  • Ensure that all necessary safe work practices are adhered to by both CHEP and contractor personnel, and all applicable local municipality construction permitting, and environmental requirements are met.
  • Effective and timely communications to Key Stakeholders beginning with project development and approval, through final commissioning and qualification.
  • Track and report progress as required against project deliverables to key stakeholders throughout the business.
  • Utilization of the FAT, CQV, and Vertical Startup Processes with Suppliers and Operations teams, to ensure successful, timely project completion.
  • Coordinate training of on-site personnel as needed for system operation and maintenance.  Ensure proper handoff of completed projects to include as-built drawings, maintenance and operations manuals, and spare parts lists.
  • Maintain strict financial controls, managing capital budgets and accurately forecasting monthly spend.
  • Lead critical reviews of equipment design, by analysing data, seeking to improve MTBF, increase efficiency/productivity, and highlight cost savings opportunities.
  • Seek innovations internally/externally to further meet our long-term business objectives.
  • Develop Suppliers by providing closed loop feedback, ensuring quality systems are in place and have the desired outcomes.

Measures

  • Ensure relevant milestones are achieved in timely fashion to enable program executive and board review decision process.
  • Recommend protocols and equipment scaling criteria for large scale digital roll-out.
  • CQV success criteria achieved, Vertical Start up timings achieved.
  • Maintain fiduciary control over all capital expenditures.
  • Achieve road map goals each financial year and set budget appropriately.
  • Third party or CHEP R&M operative are trained and qualified before start-up of new installation.
  • Zero Harm, UL and Sustainability requirements achieved before starting up installations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or equiv.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success in delivering capital projects/programs valued above $5MM
  • Material Handling and Automation experience in conveyance systems and robotics
  • Experience leading a team of highly technical individuals
  • Tracking technology and vision systems would be preferred
