  • Recruitment range: $92,337 to $101,817. Starting salary is determined in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: Up to $120,113. Progression beyond the recruitment range is available through annual performance increases, in accordance with the PEA Collective Agreement.


Job Summary

Mandate:
The Director, DEng Program Admin provides strategic and operational leadership for the Doctor of Engineering (DEng) Program at the University of Victoria, working in close partnership with the Academic Director. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Professional Programs and Development, the role ensures the effective development, delivery, and growth of this professional doctorate, which serves senior engineering and technology professionals.

In collaboration with faculty leaders, administrative units, and external partners, the Director oversees all non-academic aspects of the program-recruitment, admissions, operations, budgets, and employer partnerships-to ensure high-quality learner experiences and program outcomes. By aligning the program with UVic's academic and strategic priorities, the role strengthens the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science's reputation for innovation, responsiveness to industry needs, and leadership in professional engineering education nationally and globally.

Objectives:
The Director, DEng Program Admin is encouraged and expected to act with a considerable degree of autonomy and self-direction with respect to all aspects of the program.
  • Lead the successful development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the DEng Program to ensure it meets stated learning outcomes, maintains academic quality, and responds to evolving industry needs.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with students, employers, faculty, and external partners to enhance program reputation, secure industry support, and foster meaningful applied research opportunities.
  • Ensure the program operates within approved budgets and timelines, applying sound financial management and strategic planning to support long-term growth and sustainability.
  • Adapt and respond effectively to a dynamic work environment that may include occasional evening or weekend commitments, competing priorities, and collaboration across diverse internal and external stakeholder groups.


Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have a master's degree in business or a closely related discipline and 5 years of related administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The position is required to navigate and effectively use a range of standard office software including Microsoft Office, Outlook, specialized data management, learning management and financial and student systems, as well as course planning and scheduling software.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and motivating a team of professionals.
  • Ability to apply project management best practices to achieve project goals on time.
  • Experience working with various social media platforms and how each network can be optimally applied in different scenarios.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge and awareness of discipline-specific and current labour market conditions and trends.
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to using client software.
