The work is focused on delivering dependable data movement that helps customers get started on athenahealth with greater confidence and less disruption.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of data engineers responsible for ETL workflows that extract, transform, and load data from source systems into athenahealth environments.
  • Provide technical direction for Python-based tools, utilities, and automation used to support import, migration, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to define source-to-target mappings, business rules, migration requirements, and technical approach.
  • Review inbound and outbound data flows to identify gaps, defects, transformation issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee interoperability workflows using HL7 and FHIR standards and ensure data movement approaches align with technical and business requirements.
  • Support EHI export-related activities and ensure output is complete, accurate, and compliant with expectations.
  • Investigate complex data issues, help remove blockers, and drive resolution across cross-functional teams.
  • Establish and maintain technical documentation for processes, dependencies, standards, validation steps, and operational procedures.
  • Use AI to improve team productivity in data analysis and development tasks while ensuring human review is used to validate accuracy and appropriateness of outputs.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members through technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development.

  • Support testing and validation strategies for data import and export processes.
  • Participate in project planning, prioritization, status reviews, and issue triage as needed.
  • Maintain reusable tools, templates, and engineering standards for migration work.
  • Promote documentation quality and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Coordinate across product, implementation, operations, and engineering partners to align on timelines, dependencies, and delivery expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort through automation, better process design, and improved operating models.
  • Contribute to team planning, capacity management, and work intake prioritization.
  • Build and strengthen an operational nerve center across projects to improve visibility, accountability, reporting, and escalation handling.

Expected Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience supporting data imports, conversions, migrations, or similar data movement work.
  • Familiarity with HL7 and FHIR interoperability standards.
  • Experience with EHI Export or related healthcare data export workflows preferred.
  • Experience working with healthcare data, healthcare technology, or implementation-focused teams preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify issues, and communicate technical results clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
