Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs & Financial Communication is a strategic, high-visibility role responsible for safeguarding and advancing the company's corporate reputation while providing leadership to one communication professional supporting the portfolio. While our PR Manager leads proactive brand storytelling and thought leadership, this role focuses heavily on the corporate and financial narrative of our publicly traded insurance business.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary communications partner to Investor Relations, Government Relations, Legal, and the executive team. As both a strategic advisor and hands-on contributor, you will provide coaching, guidance, and oversight while directly developing communication strategies, executive materials, and high-impact corporate communications, while acting as the frontline leader for crisis communications and issues mitigation. This role requires a seasoned communications professional with mandatory public company experience, a deep understanding of financial markets, and the ability to navigate complex, high-stakes corporate environments.

What to Expect
  • Financial & Regulatory Communications: Partner seamlessly with Investor Relations to develop and execute communication strategies for quarterly earnings, Annual General Meetings (AGMs), investor days, and other regulatory disclosures. Provide oversight and guidance to ensure all corporate messaging aligns with our financial narrative and regulatory requirements.
  • Corporate Affairs & Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as a strategic communications advisor to the Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and executive teams. Develop cohesive messaging around policy changes, regulatory shifts, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives that impact the insurance sector.
  • Issues Mitigation & Crisis Management: Lead the development, maintenance, and execution of the company's crisis communication playbook. Anticipate reputational risks, develop proactive mitigation strategies, and manage real-time crisis response to protect the brand's integrity among shareholders, employees, and the public.
  • M&A and Strategic Initiative Communications: Lead the communications strategy for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and major corporate restructuring. Ensure seamless integration of internal and external messaging to support business continuity and stakeholder confidence.
  • Executive Communications & Counsel: Draft high-level corporate statements, briefing documents, issues briefs, and scripts for C-suite executives and board members. Provide coaching and strategic counsel to leaders on handling sensitive corporate and financial matters.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, coaching, and day-to-day direction to a communications professional supporting the corporate affairs function. Foster professional growth through mentorship, regular feedback, and development planning while effectively balancing team capacity, priorities, and deliverables.
  • Collaborative Communications Leadership: Work in lockstep with the PR Manager and other communication leaders to ensure proactive media efforts and reactive corporate affairs strategies are aligned. Ensure a unified voice across all external channels and internal touchpoints.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. An advanced degree (Master's or MBA) is considered an asset.
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or financial communications, including experience coaching team members or providing people leadership within a communication function.
  • Proven track record working within a publicly traded company, with deep familiarity of public market disclosure cycles, quiet periods, and financial reporting requirements.
  • High financial literacy with the ability to translate complex financial and regulatory information (e.g., earnings reports, M&A terms) into clear, compelling narratives for broader audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, specifically for corporate/executive audiences (e.g., issues briefs, holding statements, press releases, executive talking points).
  • High emotional intelligence and the confidence to advise and influence C-suite executives and senior leaders.
  • A team player who builds trust easily and works effectively across highly matrixed environments (Legal, IR, GR, HR).
