Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Content & Communications leads the strategy, development, governance, and execution of marketing communications and content initiatives that support global sales and marketing objectives across STERIS Life Sciences.

This role serves as the owner of messaging strategy, content governance, and copywriting excellence, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment across all internal and external communications. The position is responsible for strengthening and standardizing written communications, messaging frameworks, editorial standards, and brand voice across the organization. The role establishes scalable content operations, editorial processes, and lifecycle management practices that improve efficiency, quality, compliance, and speed-to-market.

Combining strategic leadership with hands-on execution, the Senior Manager oversees the creation of high-impact content, develops communication frameworks and messaging standards, and drives continuous improvement across content systems, workflows, and governance.

The role leads a team of communications and technical writers and partners closely with Marketing, Product Management, Technical Services, Regulatory, and Sales to strengthen the STERIS brand, support commercial growth, and enhance the Customer experience.

  • This position is based in Mentor, Ohio and follows a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to work onsite Tuesday and Thursday each week, with additional onsite attendance as needed to support business objectives, meetings, leadership visits, and collaborative activities.


What you will do as Senior Manager, Content & Communications

Core Writing & Messaging - 30%
  • Lead development of clear, compelling, and differentiated copy across all channels (digital, print, sales enablement, internal communications)
  • Develop and maintain messaging frameworks aligned to product positioning and business strategy
  • Serve as senior copywriter for high-visibility initiatives including product launches, campaigns, and executive communications
  • Translate complex technical concepts into customer-focused value messaging


Technical Literature Development & Management - 25%
  • Oversee development and lifecycle management of technical literature and documentation
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and clarity across technical and scientific content
  • Partner with Technical Services, Regulatory, and Product Management teams for alignment and approvals
  • Standardize templates, formats, and processes for scalable literature development

Content & Editorial Governance - 20%
  • Establish and enforce editorial standards, brand tone, and voice across all communications
  • Ensure content compliance with corporate communication policies and regulatory requirements
  • Lead content review and approval workflows across functions
  • Maintain consistency across all external and internal messaging

Workflow & Operational Efficiency - 15%
  • Design and implement scalable content workflows, intake processes, and prioritization models
  • Improve speed-to-market while maintaining quality and compliance standards
  • Drive alignment across Marketing, Product, Technical, and Regulatory teams
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, standardization, and efficiency

Quality Control - 10%
  • Serve as final quality reviewer for critical communications and content deliverables
  • Establish quality assurance processes, organization and continuous improvement practices
  • Ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across all outputs
  • Monitor and drive improvements in overall content quality and effectiveness


The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in marketing communications, content development, copywriting, or technical writing
  • 3 years people leadership experience required

Preferred
  • Advanced degree
  • Global marketing communications experience
  • Experience supporting commercial growth initiatives
  • Experience building content operations processes and lifecycle management systems
  • Agency-style or in-house marketing communications leadership experience

Skills
  • Strong experience leading marketing communications projects in support of commercial strategy, including development of messaging frameworks and multi-channel content strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical or scientific concepts into clear, compelling, customer-facing content
  • Proven experience developing and managing technical literature and controlled documentation within structured or regulated environments
  • Experience managing content workflows, review processes, and editorial governance at scale

Pay range for this opportunity is $105,000 - $125,000. This position is eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
