Full Job Description
Who You Are

You're an engineering leader with the people and technical skills to bring the next generation of lithium-ion batteries to market. You'll lead a team helping to deploy Sila's materials in the consumer, industrial and automotive markets through qualification with cell suppliers and OEMs. You will use your experience as a technical individual contributor and as a leader of technical teams to act as a "player-coach" in the deployment of Sila anode material with customers. You'll guide collaboration with technical and business teams at Sila as well as external partners and customers and help the team set and reach ambitious, realistic goals by building streamlined systems, setting clear responsibilities, empowering team members, and owning the team's and Sila's success.
Responsibilities and Duties

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the team and portfolio.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Assumes administrative management responsibilities for the team.
  • Manages employees and contractors to support sales activities with key partners and gather competitive intelligence.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Drive the successful deployment of our technology with a variety of partners and work with subject matter experts to construct, communicate, direct, and execute technical goals and plans
  • Coach and support engineers by providing consistent feedback, guidance through challenges, and development opportunities to encourage technical and professional growth
  • Establish or improve upon systems for efficient and productive discussion of ideas, decision making, and information sharing
  • Facilitate collaboration between groups (such as Product, Business Development, and R&D) at Sila and with external partners through direct communication, information review, and coaching
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • B.S. or higher in engineering or physical science and 12+ years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree), or related experience
  • Understanding of lithium-ion batteries, components, and materials
  • Experience leading customer- or partner-facing relationships
  • Exceptional leadership and communication abilities
  • Demonstrated advanced engineering and project management skills
  • Passion for coaching and guiding coworkers through trust, openness, and dedication
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Anticipated travel up to 25% required, both domestic and international
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $185,000 and $234,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity, and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
