Full Job Description
Role

We are seeking a Senior Maintenance Planner to join our team. In this role, you will lead maintenance planning activities while providing functional oversight and guidance to maintenance and electrical planners and coordinating closely with maintenance supervision to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable execution of work. This position plays a critical role in reducing downtime, improving asset reliability, and supporting operational readiness through effective planning, coordination, and continuous improvement. The role is based initially at our Winnemucca office but will eventually be based at the Thacker Pass site, located approximately 70 miles northwest of Winnemucca, NV and will report to the Maintenance Manager. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, vendor, or other locations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of detailed job plans, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency are the primary considerations
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all scheduled maintenance and minor construction activities
  • Work closely with Operations Teams to ensure maintenance schedules are well coordinated with the site.
  • Provide functional supervision, guidance, and mentoring to maintenance and electrical planners, including assignment and prioritization of planning work, review and approval of job plans, estimates, and work packages
  • Review planner workload, planning quality, and backlog health to ensure effective resource utilization and alignment with maintenance priorities
  • Establish planning standards, best practices, and consistent processes across maintenance planning activities
  • Identify required permits, labor, materials, equipment, costs, and contract services for maintenance tasks
  • Reserve stock items and initiate requisitions for services and materials in coordination with Supply Chain and Procurement
  • Develop, update, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), asset strategies, and standard task lists
  • Support materials management, procurement, and kitting activities to ensure work readiness
  • Conduct regular field visits to scope work, validate plans, and assess job execution progress
  • Determine appropriate planning levels, work sequencing, and prioritization for maintenance activities
  • Ensure proper coding and documentation during work identification, planning, and control phases
  • Prepare, review, and communicate planned work packages for weekly and short-interval schedules
  • Participate in planning and scheduling meetings, including Weekly Scheduling and Plan of the Day meetings
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance supervisors to support job scoping, execution readiness, and issue resolution
  • Analyze work order feedback, identify trends, and implement lessons learned to drive continuous improvement
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs and planning effectiveness, adjusting plans as needed to support operational goals
  • Develop reports and track key metrics, including backlog health, estimate accuracy, schedule compliance, and work completion
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for planning-related issues, conflicts, and schedule risks
  • Provide regular updates, recommendations, and escalation of critical issues to the Maintenance Manager
  • Assist with maintenance planning budgets, forecasting, and cost-control analysis
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values
  • Maintain a positive safety culture for the site with the right integration of safety into the procedures and programs for maintenance planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive maintenance planning experience, including parts and materials recognition
  • Demonstrated experience providing functional leadership, coaching, or coordination of planners or technical professionals
  • Prior experience in a lead, senior, or supervisory planning role, preferred
  • Formal maintenance planner training, preferred
  • Proficiency in maintenance CMMS systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA or similar)
  • Strong ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, electrical and hydraulic schematics, and predictive maintenance data
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while promoting a strong safety culture
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6 preferred
