Contract Dates: August 2026 - February 2027Position SummaryCentennial College is hiring a Senior Library Technician to provide strong guidance and coordination for one or more designated service areas in the Libraries and Learning Centres. Reporting to the Associate Director, Library Services and the Associate Director, Learning Centres and Libraries, the incumbent is the primary point of contact for clients who access library and learning centre services, systems and facilities, providing a high level of client service. The Senior Library Technician provides functional direction and guidance for staff, coordinates and allocates assignments, prepares staff schedules, and leads special projects.
Responsibilities - Co-ordinates services and operations for the Libraries and Learning Centres
- Supports the effective delivery of services within one or more designated areas of the Libraries and Learning Centres, including Library Services, Learning Centre Services, Acquisitions, Copyright Services, and special projects
- Coordinates operational activities and programs such as interlibrary loans, communications and marketing, and library software initiatives to ensure seamless service delivery
- Provides functional direction and guidance to other staff and students
- Performs all general library technician duties
- Plans, co-ordinates and implements projects for a designated campus, program or service
- Performs other duties as assigned, such as: collecting, tracking, compiling, and analyzing statistics; balancing receipt of monies; securing library materials, monies and facilities; communicating and promoting library activities and services; developing and maintaining databases.
Qualifications/Experience - Minimum Two (2) year CAAT Library and Information Technician diploma
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a library in a public service environment with experience performing duties such as reference, bibliographic orientation, circulation, and library technical and support services
- Computer proficiency with information technology systems and applications as they relate to library services; e.g. integrated library system including OPAC, circulation module, acquisitions module; discovery layer; research databases and web applications
- Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and publishing software to support reporting, data management, and communications activities
- Demonstrated analytical, research, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service, including resolving complex issues and challenging situations
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proven ability to provide functional direction, guidance, and support to staff in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to organize and conduct a complex array of functions and projects in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated communications and promotional skills; experience in designing and preparing promotional materials
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including handling, transporting, and shelving library materials, as well as preparing shipments and displays
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
- Ability to work rotating shifts and flexible to work at any campus location
