What is the opportunity?

As Senior Counsel, you will support the goals of the Enterprise Legal Advisory Team and Managing Counsel, IP, Marketing & Sponsorship in achieving the enterprise's strategic marketing, brand and sponsorship priorities with solution oriented advice and responsiveness. You will also be legal advisor to lines of business across the organization for enterprise marketing, brand, and sponsorship-related activities.

What will you do?
  • Provide legal counsel on a range of marketing and advertising law matters, including misleading advertising, comparative advertising, influencer marketing and contests, and matters relating to enterprise-level sponsorship initiatives;
  • Identify, assess and manage legal, reputational and regulatory risk relating to the enterprise's marketing, brand and sponsorship-related activities;
  • Proactively work to create awareness with business partners and within Law Group of the importance of brand protection and benefits of a streamlined marketing collateral review process leveraging automation, where possible;
  • Manage the cost and performance of external counsel as required to support contest review;
  • Deliver pro-active, solution-oriented, creative and cost-effective legal advice to help structure advertising campaigns and launch sponsorship initiatives while prioritizing brand protection;
  • Support corporate communications on matters related to marketing, brand and sponsorship-related initiatives, including press releases;
  • Coordinate and liaise with functional partners on new initiatives to mitigate legal risk and ensure compliance; and
  • Collaborate with other lawyers in the Law Group and work closely with them to promote alignment to overall enterprise strategy and applicable lines of business.


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • JD from recognized law school, called to the Bar of a Canadian province/territory and membership in applicable law society or bar association.
  • Knowledge of Law - Demonstrates proficiency in varied areas of law, particularly in laws applicable to marketing, advertising, contests and commercial contracts
  • 5 years of relevant legal experience
