Senior Engineer

Specialist I - Software Engineering

UST is looking for a strong Java Engineer with expertise in retail transaction systems, distributed architecture, and cloud modernization.

The opportunity:
• Design, develop, and maintain high-scale enterprise applications using Java 18+, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.
• Build and support large-scale retail transaction platforms capable of processing millions of transactions in distributed environments.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services for enterprise-grade applications.
• Design and implement distributed systems and high-throughput applications with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Work extensively with Kafka for event-driven architecture and real-time data processing.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications on Kubernetes-based environments.
• Write optimized and efficient SQL queries and contribute to database performance tuning.
• Participate in cloud modernization initiatives and support deployments in cloud environments

What you need:
• Experience range: 10+ Years
• Strong experience in large-scale retail technology environments including payment processing
• Proven experience designing distributed systems and high-throughput applications.
• Technical Skills:
• Mandatory: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, python, C/C++, Kubernetes, Rest APIs
• Nice to have: Azure or GCP experience
• Skills and experiences:
• 5-6 years hands on experience in Java development at enterprise level (recent). Experience in working Java Version 18 or above is mandatory
• 3+ years with Kafka and Kubernetes
• Strong programming skills in Java, including object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and familiarity with Java frameworks
• Understanding of microservices architecture and experience in building and deploying microservices-based applications
• Hands-on experience in developing Spring Boot applications, including dependency injection, ORM (Object-Relational Mapping), and REST API development
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) practices, including automated testing, build pipelines, and deployment strategies
• Proficiency in writing SQL queries as per industrial standards, fine-tuned for optimization

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Arkansas

Compensation Range: $94,000-$141,000

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) program with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Part-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).

All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
