JOB SUMMARY

This role oversees all site technology systems, including IT and operational technology (OT). Responsibilities include networks, servers, storage, telecommunications, disaster recovery, terminal operating systems (TOS), and systems such as crane and gate OCR and PDS. The position ensures technology supports safe, efficient operations through strong system performance, security, and continuous improvement.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The primary function is to devote energies to overall management and direction of all information systems design, implementation and maintenance of automated terminal operation systems. This is an onsite position, based at TraPac's terminal at the Port of Oakland.

The incumbent will report regularly to the Director, Corporate IT Field Operations and the Information Technology Department staff on overall status of departmental issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following describes the general nature and level of work performed and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Manage all site technology systems, including both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT), such as networks, servers, storage, telecommunications, disaster recovery, terminal systems (e.g., TOS, GOS, etc.), and operational systems including crane and gate OCR and PDS.

Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle management of all technology systems to ensure reliability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Monitor system performance and availability, ensuring uninterrupted service and optimal operational efficiency.

Provide technical support and guidance to users of systems, hardware, and related technologies.

Develop, implement, and maintain department standards, policies, and operating procedures.

Manage vendor relationships, including preventative maintenance programs and service contracts for all systems and equipment.

Contribute to the management of the department operating budget through ongoing analysis and control of expenditures.

Lead continuous improvement efforts by evaluating new and emerging technologies to support terminal operations and maintain competitiveness.

Develop and deliver training programs to ensure effective use of systems and promote adoption of new technologies.

Maintain effective communication of system status, issues, and updates with stakeholders across departments.

Collaborate with operational and business teams to understand requirements and ensure technological solutions align with company goals and priorities.

Ensure systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with operational needs, including participation in incident response and after-hours support as required.

Manage staff scheduling, including rotation for weekend and after-hours coverage.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field;

or Associate degree with equivalent relevant experience

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 10 years of progressive IT experience, including at least 5 years leading teams and managing contractors (5-10 individuals)
• Experience managing and delivering IT projects and initiatives
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Active Directory administration
  • Microsoft 365 (O365) and Azure environments
  • Network fundamentals (TCP/IP, network operating systems)
  • VoIP phone systems
  • Virtualization platforms (VMware ESX/vSphere)
  • Server and operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS)

• Experience in supporting or working within industrial or operational environments is preferred

OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience with Position Detection Systems (PDS) / Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS), such as Mi-Jack Mi-Star or Kalmar SmartPort
• Experience with crane and gate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems (e.g., ABB, Certus, Nascent, Lynxis)
• Experience supporting logistics, terminal, or transportation systems (e.g., RFID, GPS, TOS)
• Experience assessing and developing preventative maintenance programs and managing vendor service contracts.
• Exceptional analytical ability to coordinate installations, upgrades, and evaluate operational issues of computer systems
• Excellent time-management, self-motivation, and communication (both written and verbal) abilities
• Ability to plan, develop, document, communicate, train, and lead others to project completion
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner
