Full Job Description
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a skilled Senior Instrumentation Technician to support Fac Mgt-PC&PF-Bld Care & Ops. The Senior Instrumentation Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing complex electrical, electronic, and HVAC control systems essential to operational continuity. This position involves hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, and coordination across multiple stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient system performance.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in building automation systems-preferably within a hospital environment-and demonstrates a strong foundation in troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC systems. They possess a working knowledge of BAS systems, building automation controls, and the ability to diagnose issues related to hot water, chilled water, humidity, temperature, and air pressure systems commonly found in pharmacy and OR settings. While BAS experience is a must-have, candidates with additional skills such as MAXIMO (CMMS) experience, installation of valves and actuators (particularly SIEMENS products), electronic control systems, and communication with BOT teams on BAS signals and data will be highly valued. The ideal candidate is adaptable, team-oriented, and motivated to contribute to a department where every role is respected and collaborative problem-solving is central to success.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Days (7am - 3:30pm) but flexible.

Salary Range: $82,500 - $103,000 - $123,500

Responsibilities
Customer & Service Response
• Respond to customer calls, client requests, and emergency service calls promptly
• Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding issues encountered during work

Electrical Installation, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
• Perform functions on live circuits and operating control enclosures
• Install, troubleshoot, and repair 120, 208, 240, and 480-volt controls and equipment per NEC guidelines
• Troubleshoot equipment and replace or repair defective components
• Requisition materials required for repairs and installations

Technical Systems & Equipment
• Maintain and repair electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic building systems
• Utilize tools such as thermocouple calibrators, RTD calibrators, voltage/current generators, multimeters, and decade resistance boxes
• Install, calibrate, and test systems using manual dexterity and hand tools
• Examine and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects
• Run conduit, pull wire, and install circuits for electrically powered units

HVAC & Controls Systems
• Maintain, repair, and calibrate HVAC components including air handling units, fan coil units, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves, and terminal boxes
• Program microprocessors for initial commissioning and tuning of control systems

Coordination, Documentation & Compliance
• Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and HVAC schematics and diagrams
• Coordinate and prioritize technicians' workflow and investigate system outages
• Participate in design guideline development and project review processes
• Inspect contracted instrumentation work for compliance
• Act as point of contact for vendors and support process improvement initiatives
• Document corrective actions, labor hours, and materials accurately in work orders
• Prepare and submit reports and assist in staff training when required

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Electronics or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Eight years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include two years of electrical experience. or
  • Required: Six years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include one year of electrical experience with Journeyman Electrician's license.
