About the roleNational Grid is seeking a motivated and experienced
Instructor or Senior Instructor to support technical training programs for Customer Meter Services (CMS) operations throughout Upstate New York.
Based at our Seneca Street Training Center in Schenectady, you'll support both Gas and Electric CMS training programs while working closely with operational partners across Customer Meter Services (CMS), Instrumentation & Regulation (I&R), Gas Field Operations (GFO), Corrosion, Safety, Engineering, Compliance and other field organisations.
This role is ideal for an experienced utility professional who is passionate about developing others, sharing technical expertise and helping build a safe, highly skilled workforce.
What you'll do- Deliver technical, safety, compliance and qualification training programmes for Gas and Electric CMS employees.
- Facilitate engaging classroom, laboratory, field-based, virtual and blended learning experiences.
- Conduct practical demonstrations, skills evaluations and qualification assessments.
- Support onboarding programmes, progression schools, Annual Evaluation Training (AET) and refresher training initiatives.Mentor, coach and develop employees through hands-on learning and real-world operational scenarios.
- Develop, review and continuously improve training materials, instructor guides and learning content.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Safety and Compliance teams to ensure training aligns with business needs and regulatory requirements.
- Support qualification programmes and workforce readiness across multiple operational disciplines.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
What you'll need- Experience within Customer Meter Services (CMS), Instrumentation & Regulation (I&R), Gas Field Operations (GFO), Electric Operations, Corrosion Operations, or a similar utility environment.
- Strong technical knowledge and operational expertise within gas and/or electric networks.
- An understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them to create engaging, effective, and learner-focused training experiences would be advantageous.
- Experience delivering training, coaching, mentoring, or developing others.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and engaging way.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills across classroom, field, and virtual environments.
- Experience assessing employee competency, qualifications, or technical capability.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with operational and business stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Passion for developing people and supporting workforce capability.
- Advanced technical expertise across one or more operational disciplines.
- Experience designing, developing, and enhancing technical training programmes and learning materials.
- Demonstrated leadership within training, workforce development, or operational environments.
- Recognised subject matter expertise with the ability to influence and support wider business initiatives.
- Experience leading complex training projects, programmes, or qualification frameworks.

Salary
$101,000 - $118,000 a year
