ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril's Manufacturing Design Team is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer to own and scale our central manufacturing layout capability and system. The Manufacturing Team is responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge defense hardware - including static equipment, moving ground equipment, sensors, undersea, and flight vehicles - and scaling these products across our production footprint, including our new 5M sq ft manufacturing facility, Arsenal-1.

Within Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering delivers layout design as an internal service: enterprise-grade production layouts that define where and how products are built - from cell and line configurations through material flow paths to full facility arrangements. Done right, layouts de-risk production ramps, eliminate waste in material handling and operator movement, maximize throughput per square foot, and give leadership a single, trusted spatial reference for every capital, capacity, and footprint decision. This role sets the standard for how that capability is architected, maintained, and consumed across the company, in close collaboration with Facilities, Real Estate, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Business Operations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is not a "draw a layout and move on" role. We are looking for a senior engineer who can demonstrate holistic ownership of Anduril's factory layout capability as a durable, enterprise-wide asset - one that lives for years, absorbs changes as production systems evolve, and is trusted by leadership to make fast / efficient / standard facility, capital, and capacity decisions. The right person thrives in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment, is flexible to change and ambiguity, and can act as the connective tissue among operational stakeholders to bring a production system forward.

The mandate is bigger than any single layout. Anduril operates across multiple sites with diverse product lines at varying maturity stages - conditions where ad-hoc layouts drawn in PowerPoint or disconnected CAD files create confusion, rework, and missed opportunities. You will decide how layouts are created, versioned, maintained, stored / "libraried", and consumed so that "where does this line go?", "how much floor space do we need for rate?", and "what's the material flow path?" become queries against a maintained, centralized system - not one-off drawings that go stale the week they're delivered.

Beyond the production floor, the preferred candidate has experience or connection to overall facility design - building shell, infrastructure integration, dock and staging areas, material flow, utility routing, and the interface between manufacturing layout and the physical plant. You will work hand-in-hand with Facilities and Real Estate to ensure that production layouts and building infrastructure are designed as an integrated system, not in isolation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own Anduril's enterprise manufacturing layout capability as a long-lived, foundational asset - architecting it for maintainability, extensibility, and organizational adoption rather than single-use drawings. Work closely with IT and Tech Teams to integrate into existing business systems.
  • Design production line and workstation layouts for both low-rate and full-rate production using a data-driven approach, incorporating cell design, flow configuration, material staging, operator movement, and ergonomic considerations rooted in IE tradition.
  • Establish and maintain a centralized layout repository - the single source of truth for all production layouts across sites - that integrates with Facilities, Real Estate, and infrastructure planning so building shell decisions and production floor decisions are made from the same spatial model.
  • Build and curate a centralized CAD shape library of standard manufacturing elements (workbenches, tables, cabinets, tool storage, chairs, racks, conveyors, carts, etc.) so that every layout across the organization uses consistent, dimensionally accurate components - reducing layout creation time and ensuring visual and spatial consistency.
  • Define the enterprise standards for layout creation: file formats, naming conventions, layer structures, revision control, approval workflows, and the entrenched business processes that ensure layouts are created, reviewed, updated, and archived consistently across all sites and business lines.
  • Deploy those standards across the organization - selecting and implementing the tools, software, and mechanisms needed, training layout consumers and contributors, and building the governance structure that keeps the system healthy as the organization scales.
  • Support facility-level layout planning for new buildings, expansions, and site reconfigurations - working with Facilities, Real Estate, and infrastructure partners to integrate manufacturing floor plans with building shell design, utility routing, dock placement, aisle widths, column spacing, and overhead clearance.
  • Proactively identify spatial bottlenecks, material flow inefficiencies, and layout constraints caused by production rate changes, new product introductions, or facility limitations; flag constraints with the appropriate owners and drive to resolution.
  • Produce and maintain space utilization analyses, density metrics (units per square foot), and capacity-driven layout alternatives that tie layout decisions directly to production rate targets and business forecasts.
  • Translate layout decisions into clear visual deliverables - 2D plans, 3D renderings, block diagrams, and material flow maps - that are digestible to non-specialists so that program, operations, and leadership stakeholders can review and approve with confidence.
  • Drive the migration from scattered, inconsistent layout files to a governed, centralized platform so the whole organization plans against one spatial source of truth instead of divergent local copies. Reduce the time to stand up new layouts or modify / re-fresh existing.
  • Collaborate end-to-end across Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Facilities to ensure layouts reflect current product designs, process requirements, safety standards, and growth plans.
  • Mentor BL or Bench engineers on layout best practices and raise the bar for spatial planning discipline across the manufacturing organization. Justify growing the team if needed.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with overall facility design beyond the production floor - building shell, infrastructure integration, dock and staging design, utility routing, column grid optimization, and the interface between manufacturing layout and the physical plant.
  • Experience standing up a centralized layout management capability from scratch - repository architecture, CAD standards, shape libraries, governance, and organizational adoption.
  • Prior work designing and commissioning new production lines or factories from greenfield - from process mapping through collaborating with architectural and infrastructure design partners to detailed workstation design.
  • Experience in high-mix, complex manufacturing, production ramp, or multi-site environments where layouts must accommodate frequent change.
  • Experience with 3D factory visualization and walkthrough tools for stakeholder review and approval.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing layout principles - cellular manufacturing, U-cells, one-piece flow, point-of-use storage, visual management, and 5S integration into spatial design.
  • Experience integrating layout data with enterprise systems (ERP, MES, CMMS, or facility management platforms).
  • Proficiency in space utilization analytics, spaghetti diagrams, and density metrics to quantify layout performance.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma principles in action.
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers or setting technical standards for a team.
  • Active security clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.


US Salary Range

$146,000-$194,000 USD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
