Position Summary

The Senior HVAC Reliability Technician, Mission Critical Services is a highly skilled HVAC professional responsible for the advanced maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and optimization of mission critical cooling systems supporting data center operations. This role focuses on maintaining equipment reliability, maximizing system availability, and identifying potential failures before they impact operations.

Working with minimal supervision, this technician performs comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance activities, evaluates equipment condition and performance, analyzes operating data, and supports the ongoing reliability of critical cooling infrastructure. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of data center cooling systems, HVAC controls, refrigeration systems, and critical environment operating requirements.

Unlike Service Technicians, this position is primarily focused on proactive maintenance, equipment performance, system reliability, and operational readiness rather than customer dispatched service work or reactive repair response.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Advanced Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
  • Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance on mission critical HVAC systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Execute comprehensive maintenance programs for CRAC units, CRAH units, chillers, pumps, VFDs, cooling towers, chilled water systems, and associated controls.
  • Inspect, test, calibrate, clean, and replace components to ensure equipment reliability and peak operating performance.
  • Verify equipment operation and system performance following maintenance activities, repairs, and operational adjustments.
  • Maintain compliance with manufacturer recommendations, site standards, and mission critical maintenance procedures.

Equipment Assessment & Reliability Analysis
  • Conduct detailed equipment inspections and condition assessments to identify developing failures and potential operational risks.
  • Utilize BAS/BMS platforms, trend data, operating histories, alarms, and system performance metrics to evaluate equipment health and reliability.
  • Analyze temperatures, pressures, airflow, electrical readings, vibration indicators, and operating conditions to identify performance concerns.
  • Investigate recurring equipment issues, identify contributing factors, and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability and system availability.
  • Support long-term equipment lifecycle planning through condition reporting and maintenance recommendations.

HVAC Systems Optimization
  • Evaluate cooling system performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support optimization of mission critical cooling systems through analysis of control sequences, equipment operating parameters, and system performance data.
  • Assist with implementation and verification of system improvements, modifications, and equipment upgrades.
  • Monitor and evaluate HVAC control strategies to support operational stability and uptime requirements.

Advanced Diagnostics & Technical Support
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, electrical, and HVAC control systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving CRAC units, CRAH units, chillers, pumps, VFDs, and BAS/BMS controlled equipment.
  • Conduct root cause investigations of equipment failures and recurring operational issues.
  • When preventive maintenance activities and reliability-focused responsibilities permit, assist service technicians with equipment troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair activities in support of operational priorities, system reliability, and customer needs.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, service providers, and facility members to support resolution of complex technical challenges.
  • Serve as a technical resource regarding equipment condition, maintenance planning, and system performance assessments.

Mission Critical Infrastructure Support
  • Support the operation and maintenance of redundant cooling systems and critical facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain environmental control systems necessary to support data center uptime and operational continuity.
  • Ensure work activities comply with site operating procedures, maintenance standards, and critical environment protocols.
  • Support outage planning, maintenance windows, commissioning activities, and operational readiness initiatives.

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all lockout/tagout, refrigerant handling, electrical safety, and customer safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Adhere to all mission critical operating procedures and site requirements.

Other Requirements
  • Execute other related duties as needed or assigned to support evolving business priorities.
