Full Job Description
Senior HSE Coordinator

Reporting to the Director, the Senior HSE Coordinator supports the project team in safe production throughout the lifecycle of a project. They will ensure work tasks are performed safely in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and company policies, and that work is performed with the right safeguards in place.

This position is site-based and located in Cornwall, ON.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Support a culture that encompasses the highest ethical standards aligned with the organization.

  • Work with the industrial Leadership Team and the Senior HSE Director to ensure the organization’s HSE Program is implemented consistently across projects.

  • Oversee and recommend continuous improvement as needed to the HSE Manual, Policies and Procedures.

  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to the Regional Safety Coordinators to ensure the achievement of the HSE KPI’s as identified within the HSE Program.

  • Work with Senior HSE Director to represent the organization when dealing with provincial and federal regulators.

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure HSE standards are communicated, implemented and measured.

  • Work with the Senior HSE Director on a monthly basis to ensure timely reporting of HSE related statistical summaries, including leading / lagging indicators.

  • Audit the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System to ensure the overall integrity of the system is maintained.

  • Support HSE Director to ensure that incident investigations are completed in a timely manner and the results, including corrective actions, are communicated to Senior Management and appropriate stakeholders.

  • Support Regional Safety advisors to ensure corrective actions identified within the HSE Management System are assigned, completed and closed out as appropriate.

  • Ensure Safety Coordinators are actively promoting, engaging and facilitating the HSE program and objectives.

  • Support the District HSE representatives and, as required, the site Leadership Team in addressing HSE related topics.

  • Directly participate in all Serious Incident Investigations.

  • As requested, provide input when hiring onsite HSE positions.  Leads the development of all HSE personnel through on-going coaching and mentoring to ensure effective, safe project delivery and individual career development.

  • Support the District Vice President in the development of future safety professionals, coordination of succession plans and career planning by participating in performance reviews and feedback.

What We Are Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field

  • National Construction Safety Officer Certificate

  • CRSP Certification an asset

  • 3+ years’ Health and Safety field experience

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of OH&S/OSHA Acts and Regulations

  • Must be eligible to obtain a Canadian Reliability Security Clearance.

  • Possess a broad knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations and Industry Standards as they apply to the construction industry

  • Thorough knowledge and experience in health and safety management systems and program implementation

  • Skilled in managing internal auditing programs

  • Ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities

  • Possess and develop strong external networks (academic, associations and leading employers)

  • Self-motivated, action oriented and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently on routine tasks with a positive attitude

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation

  • Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals

  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
