Summary/Objective
The Estimator is responsible for developing project estimates and schedules for civil construction projects ranging from $1M to $50M, evaluating contract requirements, and providing direction and assistance to junior team members.
Essential Functions
• Read and interpret pertinent bid documents and plans
• Perform quantity takeoffs from civil construction plans and documents
• Develop the project scope and identify necessary disciplines
• Identify subcontractor roles
• Evaluate DBE participation to ensure project goals are met
• Identify constructability issues
• Identify value engineering opportunities
• Coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries with the owner
• Develop and review project estimates and schedules ($1M-$50M)
• Provide direction and assistance to junior team members
• Develop and deliver project bid packages
Supervisory Responsibility
• May supervise a team of junior estimators
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is an in-person, full-time position; work days are Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be required on occasion.
Travel/ Driving
• Local travel is required. May need to utilize personal transportation.
Required Education and Experience
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in a construction related field preferred
• Associates or bachelor's degree in a construction-related field
• 4 -7 years of experience as a civil construction estimator
• Experience with Dept of Transportation specifications
• Previous experience with estimating software HeavyBid or equivalent
Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience with heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction
• Previous work with NCDOT and VDOT
