This Opportunity

WSP is currently searching for a Senior Geomatics Specialist to join our Midwest Region Geomatics Team in either Minneapolis, MN, Burnsville, MN, or Detroit, MI. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-precision surveys and reality capture solutions for complex infrastructure, industrial, and related projects. The successful candidate will lead field crews in performing conventional and advanced survey operations, including dimensional control surveys, SLAM-based mobile scanning, and terrestrial laser scanning, supporting Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy, and other sectors.

Responsibilities involve managing field operations on moderate- to large-scale, complex projects, ensuring accurate capture of spatial data and control networks used for boundary retracement, engineering design, construction verification, as-built documentation, and digital twin workflows. Generates accurate and concise survey deliverables including PLSS and control reports, boundary evidence recovery, scan registrations, and QA/QC documentation derived from conventional and 3D capture technologies. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for safety, accuracy, and functionality.

  • Lead and mentor survey crew members in field operations, emphasizing safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with surveyors, geomatics technicians, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate field-to-finish workflows.
  • Provide training and guidance on survey principles, GNSS, dimensional control methods, SLAM scanning, and terrestrial LiDAR technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and adoption of emerging reality capture technologies.

Clients
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to plan and execute field survey tasks including boundary retracement, survey control, and reality capture strategies.
  • Serve as the primary field representative for survey and scanning operations on assigned projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders during field operations, including active construction environments.
  • Provide accurate and timely updates on project progress, field conditions, and data quality.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet client specifications and applicable regulatory and professional standards.


Expertise
  • Lead execution of a variety of surveys including ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, right-of-way, subsurface utility engineering, and high-precision dimensional control surveys for indoor mapping, industrial alignment, and verification.
  • Operate and manage SLAM mobile scanners, terrestrial laser scanners (e.g., Leica, NavVis), GNSS, and total stations.
  • Establish, adjust, and validate survey control networks to meet tight tolerance requirements.
  • Perform scan planning, acquisition, registration, and validation of point cloud datasets.
  • Process and integrate field data into CAD and reality capture platforms (e.g., Cintoo, NavVis Ivion, Leica Cyclone, Recap).
  • Interpret and troubleshoot discrepancies between design models, control networks, and field conditions.
  • Prepare detailed field notes, reports, and QA/QC documentation supporting survey and scan deliverables.
  • Support a variety of projects including industrial facilities, transportation corridors, utilities, and energy sites.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, project specifications, and QA/QC procedures.


Operational Excellence
  • Plan and execute field activities with a focus on safety, productivity, and quality outcomes.
  • Monitor adherence to survey control standards, tolerances, and project-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate logistics, equipment, and staffing for field assignments.
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams in delivering fully coordinated project outcomes.
  • Assist in developing field workflows and best practices for advanced survey technologies.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to meet project or business needs.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 9 years of relevant field surveying experience, including leadership of survey crews.
  • Demonstrated expertise in dimensional control surveying and construction layout.
  • Experience operating SLAM scanners and terrestrial LiDAR systems.
  • Strong understanding of survey control, coordinate systems, and geodetic principles.
  • Ability to perform precise measurements and computations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage field operations in dynamic environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with clients and project teams.
  • Highly developed attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with field data collection and processing software platforms.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, including extended hours as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally up to 100% of the time.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and be willing to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.


Preferred Qualification
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in surveying, geomatics, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as LSIT, CST, or manufacturer certifications (Leica, Trimble, Faro, etc.).
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification
  • Experience with industrial measurement, plant scanning, or digital twin workflows.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and point cloud processing software.
  • Experience managing complex field operations in construction or industrial environments.
  • Safety certifications in OSHA, HAZWOPER, confined space, etc.

Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $80,100-$111,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific geographic location.
