Full Job Description
The Role:

As a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll work on a small development team designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical web-based software for major film studios, TV broadcasters, and cable operators in a high-energy environment. You'll work across both worlds: building new services in Go on Helix, and supporting and migrating what's already in production in Java and Spring. You'll also build the front-end features that go with your APIs - data-dense interfaces where the challenge is making large, complex result sets fast and understandable.

We're also actively building AI into how we work and what we ship - agent-assisted development and LLM-powered features on top of our platform data. We're looking for someone who already works this way and can help set the bar for the rest of the team.

What You'll Do:
  • Design and write new APIs and data processing code in Java or Python
  • Build the front-end features that go with them - data-dense interfaces where the challenge is making large, complex result sets fast and understandable
  • Create new data models to handle our ever-increasing data volume
  • Devise algorithms to handle data synchronization across distributed systems
  • Design and implement ETL processes that integrate with a variety of customer and third-party data sources
  • Own features end to end: requirements, design, implementation, tests, deployment, and support
  • Use AI tooling as a core part of your development workflow, and help establish what good practice looks like as agents write a meaningful share of the code
  • Write technical requirements and design documents
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team on the development of our new platforms and internal tools
  • Mentor other engineers through design and delivery

What You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience with software design and development in Java
  • Experience with Spring and core Spring components, especially Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, and Spring Data REST
  • Front-end experience with a modern component framework (Vue, React, or similar), including state management and async data loading
  • Experience with data modeling in SQL, ideally PostgreSQL, and query tuning at scale
  • Experience with AWS APIs and services (S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS)
  • Experience with a scripting language, ideally Python
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging (Kafka, Kinesis, SNS/SQS)
  • Hands-on experience developing with AI tooling - coding agents or assistants, and/or building features against LLM APIs - with a clear point of view on where it helps and where it doesn't
  • Experience with web services (REST)
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience mentoring other engineers

Nice to Have:
  • Production experience with Golang
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, particularly Temporal - durable long-running workflows, activities, retries, idempotency, versioning, and testing. Airflow, Step Functions, or Cadence experience is relevant here as well
  • Experience building AI-powered product features: retrieval/RAG, agents and tool use, evals, and managing cost and latency in production
  • Familiarity with MCP servers or other agent-tooling integrations
  • Experience with non-relational data technologies
  • Experience with data warehousing, ideally Amazon Redshift
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline ownership
  • Domain experience in media, entertainment, content licensing, or rights and royalty systems

What We Have To Offer:

Your wellbeing is our priority. We want our Whipsters to feel set up for success at work and at home! We offer a competitive health plan so you can choose the right plan for you and your loved ones! We offer wellbeing bundles to ensure your mental and physical health resources are at your fingertips. Whip's People Team is committed to your happiness and growth in every aspect of your life! Here are some other perks:
  • Competitive Maternity/paternity leave
  • Remote office stipend
  • Flexible PTO
  • Referral bonuses
  • Access to FSA plans
  • 401k retirement plan
  • Monthly mobile reimbursement

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $160,000 - $185,000. Additionally, you will be eligible to participate in our robust medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefit plans. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education/certifications or training.
