Your Mission Brief

We are looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer with strong FPGA and embedded firmware experience to design and deliver robust, certifiable solutions for aerospace applications.

Why this role is exciting

  • Own high-impact firmware development for mission-critical aerospace systems, from architecture through verification and certification artifacts
  • Work on advanced FPGA and SoC platforms used in next-generation embedded video, AI, and high-speed data systems
  • Partner closely with hardware, software, and systems teams to solve complex integration challenges and deliver certifiable products
  • Help shape engineering best practices while mentoring and supporting other members of the team

You will take ownership of firmware development for FPGA- and SoC-based systems, including requirements analysis, RTL design, verification, hardware bring-up, integration, and support for DO-254 objectives. You will also contribute to architecture decisions, technical reviews, and continuous improvement of development practices.

As Senior FPGA Engineer at WOLF, you might...

  • Lead firmware development across the full lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, RTL design, simulation, synthesis, timing closure, integration, and release
  • Design and implement firmware for FPGA and SoC platforms such as AMD/Xilinx UltraScale+, Zynq UltraScale+, and Versal-class devices, or comparable technologies
  • Develop and verify high-reliability digital designs using VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog
  • Implement and integrate high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, AXI, DisplayPort, HDMI, SDI, and ARINC 818, depending on program needs
  • Support board bring-up, lab debugging, and hardware/software integration in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Apply structured development practices aligned with DO-254 objectives, including requirements traceability, verification planning, and documentation
  • Contribute to system architecture, technical reviews, and risk reduction activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and help strengthen development and verification practices across the team

Your Edge

You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and bring 7+ years of FPGA and/or firmware development experience, ideally in aerospace, defence, industrial, automotive, medical, or another regulated environment.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical execution with sound engineering judgment and is comfortable working across the full development lifecycle.

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience developing firmware for safety-critical or high-reliability systems; DO-254 experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong RTL design skills using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog
  • Experience with modern FPGA development and verification toolchains such as Vivado, Vitis, Questa, or equivalent
  • Experience with lab debug tools such as JTAG, integrated logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers
  • Solid understanding of clock domain crossing, reset strategy, timing closure, and hardware/software co-design
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Nice to Have

  • Experience with video, imaging, AI acceleration, or embedded compute platforms used in harsh-environment systems
  • Experience with DO-254 planning, reviews, and certification deliverables
  • Knowledge of firmware security concepts such as secure boot, encryption, or trusted update mechanisms
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM, constrained-random verification, or automation for regression testing
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD workflows, and scripted build or test automation
What Success Looks Like

  • You deliver high-quality firmware that is robust, verifiable, and ready for integration into production systems
  • You help reduce technical risk early through strong architecture, disciplined verification, and practical collaboration
  • You strengthen the team by sharing knowledge, improving processes, and raising the bar for technical execution
