The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) team is seeking a
Senior Flight Safety Official to be based in
Seattle, Washington.
In this high visibility position you will interact with pilots, managers, executives, peers, supporting team personnel, and Subject Matter Experts. The selected candidate for this role will need to have good relationship building and excellent communication skills.
This is a non-flying position, aviation medical not required.
As a Senior Flight Safety Official, you will support the BT&E Safety Management System (SMS) for flight operations within the Mobility & Surveillance & Bomber + Vertical Lift (MS&B + VL). Additionally, this position will assist with the advancement of SMS within the Metrology & Test Equipment Services (MATES). Assists in administration and management of critical safety programs and activities including flight safety investigations, Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), internal evaluations program (IEP) including Flight Operations Risk Assessment (FORA), mishap plan, lead safety action groups, other safety management system activities including data trending and application of safety taxonomy.
Position Responsibilities Include:- Actively support BT&E Integrated Test Leader for MS&B + VL and MATES Director on safety matters including safety assurance and safety risk management
- Support and actively contribute to the continual improvement of BT&E's SMS
- Promote, plan, and conduct safety assurance activities including auditing
- Avidly support safety promotion and promulgate a positive safety culture
- Manage and investigate safety reports (e.g. Speak Up) to implement containment mitigations and systemic level corrective actions
- Perform safety risk management (SRM) activities and lead Safety Action Groups (SAGs)
- Frequently interface with safety data analysts, Quality Assurance (QA) and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) counterparts
- Provide SME support for Enterprise and business unit level SMS activities
- Act as a flight safety liaison for MS&B + VL flight operations in Seattle, Mesa, and Philadelphia
- Produce safety reports and updates for BT&E leadership team
- Conduct risk assessments and change management activities
- Maintain and enhance emergency response plan and conduct integrated emergency response drills with BT&E and its business partners
- Conduct periodic safety assessments per DCMA 8210 and Enterprise SMS standards
- Lead and participate in incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses
- Lead and facilitate aircraft impound investigations
- Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer safety boards, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): - The position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. b7120.62 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- 5+ years of experience as a flight crew member (ie. pilots, co-pilots, navigator, flight engineer)
- At least one leadership position where you were responsible for leading the daily activities for a team and managing projects
- Proficient utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite
- Are you willing to travel up to 15%
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):- 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with aviation safety investigations
- 5+ years of experience working with teammates and management to improve flight operations safety
- Knowledge of military flight operations
- Aviation safety, aviation SMS, systems safety certificate or degree
- Experience in developing and reporting performance metrics
- Experience in developing presentations to support safety promotion
- Experience applying SMS concepts found in FAA AC 120-92D, CFR Part 5, and ICAO Doc 9859
- Experience in investigations and root cause corrective action

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range: $141,950 - $192,050
