Full Job Description
Renesas Electronics America is seeking a mid-level PMIC Firmware Verification Engineer to join our Infrastructure Power team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will verify and validate embedded firmware used to control high-performance power management ICs for data center, AI accelerator, networking, and computing platforms.
This role focuses on pre-silicon and post-silicon verification, requiring a solid understanding of power electronics and practical experience with SystemVerilog-based verification. You will work closely with firmware, silicon design, and applications engineers to ensure reliable PMIC operation in real customer environments.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain SystemVerilog testbenches to verify firmware behavior and firmware-hardware interaction.
• Run simulations and debug issues in pre-silicon environments, including RTL simulations and emulation platforms.
• Support post-silicon bring-up, validation, and characterization of PMIC firmware features.
• Assist firmware developers in implementing and debugging control algorithms, sequencing logic, telemetry, and protections.
• Create automated scripts (Python/Perl) to streamline verification regressions and lab bench measurements.
• Use test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers) to validate functionality and debug hardware/firmware issues.
• Document firmware verification flows, test plans, and test results.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues found during validation, simulation, or customer evaluation.
Qualifications
• Education: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, OR Computer Engineering.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of firmware verification experience in pre-silicon environment.
• Hands-on experience developing or using SystemVerilog testbenches.
• Working familiarity with hardware RTL or digital subsystem design.
• Strong programming skills in C for embedded systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Perl for scripting and test automation.
• Strong debugging ability and analytical reasoning skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with UVM or other structured verification methodologies.
• Familiarity with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
• Experience with emulation platforms such as FPGA-based environments or QEMU.
• Familiarity with debug tools such as SimVision, Verdi, or similar.
• Understanding of I2C, PMBus, SPI, or other low-speed bus protocols.
• Knowledge of digital voltage regulation, control loop behavior, and system-level power sequencing.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for firmware or simulation regression.
