Senior Fire Protection Engineer (FPE)!
Your work environment at EXPEXP is seeking a
Senior Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) to join our growing MEP/FP team in either our
Coral Gables or
Fort Lauderdale, Florida office.
The successful candidate will lead the planning, design, and coordination of fire protection systems for a variety of building projects, including aviation, hospitality, commercial, healthcare, government, and institutional facilities. This role offers opportunities to serve as Engineer of Record, mentor staff, and contribute to business development and client relationships.
What a day at EXP has in store for you- Lead the design and engineering of fire protection systems, including:
- Automatic sprinkler systems
- Standpipe systems
- Fire pumps
- Special hazard suppression systems
- Clean agent systems
- Water-based suppression systems
- Fire alarm and life safety coordination
- Perform and review hydraulic calculations and fire protection analyses.
- Develop code compliance strategies and life safety assessments.
- Prepare fire protection drawings, technical specifications, engineering reports, and narratives.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil disciplines.
- Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), insurance representatives, and contractors.
- Conduct design reviews and provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) oversight.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and proposed substitutions.
- Support construction administration activities, including site observations and resolution of field issues.
- Prepare life safety plans and egress analyses in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Ensure compliance with:
- NFPA standards
- International Building Code (IBC)
- Florida Building Code (FBC)
- Local AHJ requirements
- Applicable federal, state, and industry regulations
- Manage multiple projects and maintain schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Apply risk management principles to minimize exposure and promote technical excellence.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers.
- Support business development efforts, proposal preparation, and client presentations.
- Serve in a responsible-charge capacity for fire protection engineering services.
What your experience looks like- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in fire protection engineering for building projects.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.
- Professional Engineer license in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Automatic sprinkler system design
- Standpipe systems
- Fire pumps
- Special hazard suppression systems
- Fire alarm and life safety systems coordination
- Smoke control systems
- Strong working knowledge of:
- NFPA 13
- NFPA 14
- NFPA 20
- NFPA 72
- NFPA 101
- International Building Code
- Florida Building Code
- Experience preparing hydraulic calculations and code analyses.
- Ability to serve as lead engineer on multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong communication, client management, and project leadership skills.
- Experience mentoring junior staff and leading design teams.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit; experience with fire protection design software is preferred.
- Experience with aviation, healthcare, hospitality, federal, or large commercial projects is highly desirable.
