Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Are you a strategic financial leader with a passion for process improvement and team mentorship? The Finance Partnership Network is seeking a collaborative and strategic Senior Financial Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Finance Partner, you will provide leadership and mentorship to a team of 8-10 Financial Analysts supporting the University's Finance Partnership Network.

In this pivotal role, you will strengthen financial administration by identifying process improvements, supporting research post-award activities, developing standardized reporting templates, and creating tools to enhance budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement, build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and serve as the primary point of contact for complex financial matters and team escalations. Through your leadership, you will help deliver consistent, high-quality financial services that support the University's strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, mentor, and coach a team of 8-10 analysts, promoting an inclusive, collaborative, and positive work culture.
  • Coordinate, assign, and monitor team tasks and workloads. Establish clear performance objectives, conduct reviews, and manage performance issues in collaboration with the Senior Finance Partner.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, interviewing, and onboarding activities, supporting workforce planning for future business needs.
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models, scenario analyses, and resource planning tools to support budget development and strategic decision-making.
  • Perform advanced financial analysis across operating, trust, endowment, and research funds to identify trends, risks, and variances.
  • Design and maintain sophisticated financial reports and visualizations using institutional tools to ensure data integrity.
  • Critically evaluate existing financial workflows to drive continuous improvement, optimizing team workflows and template standards.
  • Support the Senior Finance Partner in advancing strategic initiatives and implementing best practices across the Finance Partnership Network.
  • Translate high-level organizational goals into actionable tactical plans for the analyst team.
  • Act as the first point of contact for resolving day-to-day operational difficulties and technical escalations, consulting with the Senior Finance Partner on major matters.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences and deliver responsive, client-focused financial services.
  • Foster collaboration, resolve issues effectively, and promote knowledge sharing across teams and stakeholder groups.


Qualifications

  • A university degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • At least five years of advancing experience within a finance or administrative office environment, with specific expertise in data analysis, modelling, and process creation.
  • Expertise in Google Suite and Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with University of Alberta protocols and PeopleSoft Financial software is considered beneficial.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven analytical thinking and a natural talent for solving complex problems.
  • Capacity to manage various responsibilities simultaneously while ensuring high-quality output.
  • Strong project management and deadline-oriented skills to navigate overlapping priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as an independent contributor and as a collaborative partner in a fast-paced team setting.
