Senior Exploration Geologist

Alamos Gold's Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada's largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos' foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview

As the Senior Exploration Geologist, you will play a key role in advancing near-mine exploration opportunities and supporting the long-term growth of the Young-Davidson Mine. Reporting to the Geological Superintendent, you will be responsible for leading and executing exploration initiatives both underground and on surface, while contributing to strategic exploration planning and resource expansion efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Perform inspections, job observations, and field reviews to ensure compliance with site safety standards and best practices.
  • Exploration Target Generation: Develop and evaluate exploration targets through data collection, interpretation, and application of geological principles.
  • Exploration Program Management: Coordinate and oversee underground and surface diamond drilling programs to enhance orebody understanding and resource development.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Collect, compile, manage, and interpret geological information from drilling, mapping, geophysics, and surface sampling programs.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical leadership to the Exploration team, develop best-practice exploration systems, and mentor junior geological staff.
  • Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement: Contribute to exploration work programs, near-mine exploration strategies, budgeting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across exploration functions.


What You Bring to the Table

  • 5-10 years of experience in near-mine mineral exploration, with strong expertise in gold exploration and geological interpretation.
  • Proven track record generating exploration targets, managing drilling campaigns, and delivering successful exploration programs.
  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geology from a recognized university.
  • Registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario, or eligible to obtain registration within six months of employment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with geological software such as Vulcan, Deswik, and AcQuire is considered an asset.
  • Experience developing, monitoring, and reporting budgets; SAP experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid understanding of gold deposit models and experience working in an operating mine environment.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Passion for exploration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

  • 10-hour shifts following a 4/3 schedule.
