Job Summary

The Office of Strategic Relations and Communications at CU Boulder is seeking a senior executive digital strategist to support the Chancellor's social media presence and strategy! The Senior Executive Digital Strategist leads the strategic development, creation, management, and execution of social media content for the Chancellor and Chancellor's spouse. The position is responsible for developing and delivering a coordinated digital strategy that raises the Chancellor's visibility and voice. It promotes thought leadership and builds connections to important groups. The strategy also supports CU Boulder's mission, priorities, and reputation. The strategist will develop compelling, timely and authentic content tailored to each platform and audience; find opportunities to amplify the Chancellor's leadership and the university's impact; and ensure a consistent, distinctive digital presence across channels. The role requires strong editorial judgment, exceptional storytelling and writing skills, an understanding of emerging digital trends and the ability to move quickly and strategically in a dynamic public-facing environment.

Reporting to the senior director of chancellor communications, this role will work closely with the Chancellor, his executive team, staff and spouse, and with social media and content creators from around campus including those from strategic communications, athletics and student life.

The ideal candidate will be a highly creative content driver with a demonstrated knowledge of Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Threads, YouTube and Facebook, while monitoring new and emerging channels.

The role will work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, on and beyond campus in order to generate, capture and distribute content. The position may occasionally encounter sensitive information-a dedication to confidentiality is vital.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Chancellor social media and content generation

  • Develop and implement an editorial calendar and social media strategy for the Chancellor.
  • Capture, post and monitor various platforms where the Chancellor or the Chancellor's spouse has a presence.
  • Attend campus and external events to generate content, with some events occurring on nights and weekends.
  • Develop metric tracking and reporting to measure social media outcomes and refine the strategy on an ongoing basis.
  • Build a comprehensive strategy specific to each social media platform, with clear goals, audiences, content approaches, voice, cadence and measures of success.
  • Ensure the Chancellor's social presence is cohesive across platforms while taking advantage of the distinct audiences, formats, and strengths of each channel.
  • Continue to build partnerships and collaboration efforts between social media teams and personnel from around campus to aid in strategy, cross-sharing, content ideas and generation.
  • Develop executive-level strategies that align with CU Boulder priorities and goals.

Other duties as assigned

  • Participate in news and media efforts, support marketing campaigns, strategic events, crisis communications and other goals and efforts for Strategic Relations and Communications or the Chancellor's office.


What You Should Know

This position will work normal business hours in addition to irregular hours, including nights and weekends, to generate and distribute social media content for senior university leaders that aligns with the university's strategic priorities.

  • The annual salary range for this position is $85,000-$91,000.

What We Require

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional job-related experience.
  • Photography, videography, and editing experience, particularly for the social media space.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to measure, analyze, and report on social media performance using platform- specific analytics, web analytics, social listening and monitoring tools, and other measurement technologies.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience in managing social media accounts for senior executives, elected officials, organizational leaders, university presidents/chancellors, or other high-profile figures.
  • 7+ years of professional job-related experience.
