JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: SENIOR ESTIMATOR - CONCRETE/CIVIL

LOCATION: Auburn Hills, Michigan

OBJECTIVE

Commercial Contracting Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator - Concrete/Civil to support preconstruction and estimating efforts for large-scale heavy industrial, structural concrete, and commercial construction projects. This position will be based at CCC's Auburn Hills Headquarters and serve as a key member of the Preconstruction team.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven years of estimating experience with expertise in heavy industrial construction, structural concrete, civil work, and large general contracting projects. Experience with self-perform concrete operations is highly desirable.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Estimating & Preconstruction
  • Prepare detailed estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, temporary facilities, and project general conditions.
  • Develop accurate time-and-material estimates as required.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare cost summary sheets.
  • Input quantities and pricing into estimating software platforms.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to ensure a complete understanding of project scope.
  • Analyze heavy industrial, civil, and structural concrete projects from conceptual stages through final bid submission.
  • Include value-engineering opportunities on every project estimate.


Concrete & Civil Construction Focus
  • Prepare estimates related to:
    • Structural concrete
    • Foundations
    • Heavy industrial concrete
    • Civil construction scopes
    • Site concrete
    • Self-perform work packages
  • Evaluate construction means and methods to ensure competitive and executable pricing.


Subcontractor & Vendor Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Solicit, review, analyze, and compare subcontractor proposals.
  • Develop scope packages and bid instructions.
  • Ensure adequate subcontractor coverage on each bid opportunity.
  • Match subcontractors to the size, complexity, and requirements of each project.


Bid Administration
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, proposal conferences, and site visits.
  • Develop Requests for Information (RFIs) and bid clarifications.
  • Create and manage project-specific bidder lists.
  • Conduct comprehensive bid-day analysis and scope reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and bid requirements.


Project Handoff & Operations Support
  • Coordinate turnover of awarded projects to Project Management teams.
  • Review job cost budgets and identify procurement needs.
  • Complete project kick-off documentation.
  • Highlight project risks, assumptions, and outstanding awards during project transition meetings.
  • Properly transfer bid documents and subcontractor buyout information to Operations.


Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain historical cost databases and estimating benchmarks.
  • Prepare bid-status and estimating reports.
  • Analyze completed projects and compare estimated costs to actual costs.
  • Identify estimating process improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Conduct special studies to establish labor productivity rates and cost standards.
  • Organize and manage centralized estimating data to support future pursuits.


Client Relationships & Business Development
  • Support client engagement throughout the preconstruction and construction process.
  • Assist with market analysis and client selection initiatives within the Concrete/Civil business segment.
  • Support business development efforts through strong technical and estimating expertise.
  • Maintain client relationships to promote customer satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Participate in value-engineering initiatives during both bidding and construction phases.


Team Development
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators and estimating support personnel.
  • Share estimating best practices and lessons learned across the department.
  • Support the development of estimating tools, procedures, and standards.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Building Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.


Experience
  • 7+ years of estimating experience in industrial, heavy commercial, civil, or concrete construction.
  • Proven experience estimating heavy industrial and structural concrete projects.
  • Experience with self-perform construction operations is highly preferred.
  • Experience working for a General Contractor on complex projects preferred.
